Photo ID for lift passes

Has anyone ever had to produce these? I never have, but we're going to a new resort this year, and am wondering if things might be different there. And do they mean show your passport, or actually have a photo to use for a pass. How could it be, as the plastic passes just sit zipped up in your arm pocket all week and never get shown to anyone?
Just finding new things to fret about...

Some resorts they want a passport sized photo to put onto the liftpass, other places they want to look at your passport and others they don't care and you just buy the pass.

I always take some passport sized photos just in case, and then you are equipped for whatever the local set up is. Do not believe the brochure IME...

I think you just have to show it but am not sure, when we ordered Avoriaz ones online last year I had to attach a photo file to each application, but they weren't printed on the passes.
La Plagne / Les Arcs don't ask for anything at all, even to prove childrens' ages.

LemonEmmaP · 07/02/2012 12:47

Do you mean while you're on the mountain? I've only needed photos on passes longer than 6 days (so in the exciting days of two week ski holidays) and in those cases, I took passport type photos with me, and they were laminated on to the ski pass (not that anyone looked at them!). On the other hand, this year I had ordered lift passes online, so when I went to collect them, all I had to show was the email that gave me the details - I wasn't asked to provide ID.

Depends on the resort but some seal a photo into the pass so they can spot check for any ticket transfers. Just take some digital photos with you. There will be facilities if you really need to produce a photo but it will cost and may not be convenient. For concessions they may ask for proof of age too.

TwoPinkShoes · 07/02/2012 12:48

Just google the name of the mountain.

Where we go don't have photos for anything up to 8 days, but require photos for longer periods and season passes. Glad I looked it up before we left as we only just snuck in on the 8 days one Grin

Last year they took photos of us when we bought our passes and they were instantly printed on, no extra charge.

They weren't checked all week, though.

MissHaviCLAM · 07/02/2012 13:00

Damn. Will have to dig out those spare passport mugshots from last year, but will need to check out the rest of our party. Might phone the tourist information office in resort to ask though...

LIZS what about sizing on digital photos?

You can either use software like ms photo editor to print to the relevant size or paste onto a word document and resize the images.

outofbodyexperience · 07/02/2012 15:45

Here they just take the photos and Print the pass with them on when you go to collect it. It's no biggie. I honestly had no idea there were still places that you needed to take a photo for! Blush

MissHaviCLAM · 07/02/2012 16:45

Well, I would have thought the same outofbody. Which is why we're 4 days from departure and I've not even considered it. One of our party found it stated on their website for passes over 3 days. It's no big deal to take some - although if it's essential then surely they'll have facilities to do it there and then.

OneMoreMum: your photos will be linked with your pass and when you go through the barrier your photo will flash up on a screen for the liftie. We were in the Domomites this year and though no photo was required for the adult passes, each pass had a M for male and F for female printed beside the seriel number and this was checked and displayed to the lifitie each time you went through the barrier (someone in our chalet had his wife's pass and he had to call her, get her instructor to speak to the liftie and then ski to meet them to get the correct pass - he was in danger of having the wrong pass taken from him). We had to give DD's passport in to the Reps when they went to get her pass and her photo was scanned onto her pass.

We haven't had to provide photos for years but maybe with technology moving on we may have to again and they obviously don't want people to share passes.

MissHaviCLAM · 08/02/2012 14:21

Well, certainly, without any photo ID it wouldn't be hard to swap passes around, would it? I suppose it depends on how much of this there is going on, as to whether or not a resort is going to take action.

Where we go you have to show your passport if it's a child and then 1 photo per pass. Tis a small resort - no fancy flashing up photo's on screens Smile

bigTillyMint · 08/02/2012 17:59

That's for passes of 3+ days.

Oh, and they check your pass on the lifts!

clam · 09/02/2012 17:51

One of our party called the tourist info today and yes, we do need them.
