I have managed to get february half term off (which is pretty rare and exciting to me), so we can book a SECOND SKI HOLIDAY!!
Now i can barely control my excitement (and my DH's panic at the cost of a half term ski holiday). I have found a cheap deal (for 2 adults 3 kids) at La norma
here
with peak retreats. Has anyone been? I can't decide if it will be fab, or cheap nasty and make me cry.
(we normally go self-catering).
Any thoughts?

I've been with peak retreats before, they are a good ski company, although not especially cheap. We've been skiing next door to La Norma at a small resort called Aussois - we popped over for the day to La Norma last year, it's a nice resort - not very big but nice for families. We drive direct without stopovers - it's a pretty straightforward drive, you follow the autoroute and we've never had any problem with traffic. It takes about 10-11 hours to drive. We have done an overnight drive when the kids were small - my OH and I shared the driving, but it was very tough! The roads are very long and straight and it is very easy to start dozing, we needed frequent stops for strong coffee to keep going. Now the kids are older we have an early start and stock up on DVDs for the kids.
By the way - we stopped using Peak Retreats when we found we could book the same apartments direct on the internet for a lot less using the french website www.goelia.com. Also shop around for ski rental on the internet before you go, you can save a lot of money. There are a couple of small supermarkets in La Norma, but not particularly cheap - I bought along a few basics like cereal, juice, pasta, frozen meat with us to keep our costs down. Eating out was quite pricey.

thank you for your reply. this year is us testing out driving to the alps - next year may well be us booking completly independantly.
small but great for families is just what we like - carrying 4 pairs of skis for any distance is no joke!
