Sports bra?

Do I need one? I have optimistic images of gliding smoothly along, with nary a jiggle, but is this just madness, and do I in fact need to be trussed to the limit?

Grin It's never occurred to me to wear a sports bra when skiing, but then I am not well endowed!

If it's your first time, I doubt that you would be going that fast!

PatientGriselda · 28/02/2011 08:20

I am a 32G, so it will be a bouncing pain if I get it wrong. But I am reassured by the slowness thing (and thank you for kindly not crushing my dreams of elegant gliding!).

I am well endowed and ski off piste, I always wear a high impact sports bra!

PatientGriselda · 28/02/2011 12:45

Ah thanks bikerunski. Would you think a fellow big boober would need one for the beginner stages?

I do own sports bras, I hasten to add, it is just that they are a bit ancient and I wouldn't now trust them for running, so if it turns out to e necessary for skiing I will get a new one.

I'd wear one PatientGriselda. The beginer stages can be bumpy too! It's not like you regret wearing one, but you might regret not wearing one. But I reckon you could get away with an old one.

PatientGriselda · 28/02/2011 13:46

Excellent - thank you.

Have fun. V envious of you going skiing!

PatientGriselda · 28/02/2011 13:49

Thanks! I am envious of your glamorous swooshy off piste skills, so we can call it even :)

Erm, not glamarous at all! I have more guts than technique shall we say, and v little skiing in last 3 years since DS came along!

sandk · 28/02/2011 20:25

An old one should work great. I save my old running bras for skiing. I don't fancy the thought of an awkward fall with an underwire shifting to an unexpected place as well :)

tulpe · 01/03/2011 08:11

I wear a high impact sports bra and have no off-piste swooshy skills at all :o

greygirl · 01/03/2011 10:46

i always wear a sports bra, which can make me look a slightly less than glamorous shape - and i also have no swooshiness really - more slide lean hope....

CaurnieBred · 01/03/2011 11:25

Freya now do an underwired sports bra here

Gives a bit of shape rather than a monoboob (am a 32G so am well used to the monoboob)

I also always wear a sports bra when skiing.

bigTillyMint · 01/03/2011 12:01

I am in awe of all you well-endowed skiers, but at least what bra to wear isn't one of my worries on the slopes - as a 34AABlush

WhatsWrongWithYou · 01/03/2011 12:21

I started ski-ing five years ago aged 42, and have only just got to the stage of feeling reasonably safe and in control - ie no swooshing.

I'm a 30G and have pondered bringing a sports bra, but tbh my normal bras fit so well and are so uplifting it's always been fine.

Plus it's bad enough having to wear a fleece and polo neck - would look even worse without my underwires and clever stitching underneath! >

If you regularly get fitted (not at M&S), and your bras fit properly, you should be fine.

greygirl · 01/03/2011 12:29

i wear one mostly for support but also because i don't want to sweat over my 'good' bras

tulpe · 01/03/2011 23:34

I had a lump removed from my breast a couple of years ago which turned out to be benign (thankfully) but the specialist believes could have been caused by trauma to the breast when I fell whilst skiing.

Just a thought perhaps worth bearing in mind regarding bras and support needs.

PatientGriselda · 02/03/2011 19:48

Bloody hell, tulpe. Did you have a particularly awful fall at some point, or did he mean that general tumbling might have been to blame?

I'm glad your lump was benign.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 02/03/2011 20:03

Shock l did not realise trauma coud do that! Tulpe, glad you are okay now.
Have lost 2 stone since I last when skiing before this year, and found it much more comfortable with smaller boobs - didn't think about the sports bra option, nver really considered skiing a sport, but I suppose it is...Grin

tulpe · 05/03/2011 19:16

PatientGriselda - not a really bad trauma directly to the breast but I had a fall where my right arm ended up being yanked sharply above my head as I fell (difficult to explain, sorry). The two possibilities from that are: that the action caused a tear in the muscles and soft tissue - the shoulder muscles interconnect with the chest muscles - and it's possible that this caused the lump. Alternatively, the underwire of my bra may have damaged the soft tissues/muscles and therefore caused a lump. Not absolutely proven but he had seen such cases before.

MrsGuyofGisbourne - I am with you on the "skiing not a sport" issue! In fact, I always wore regular underwire bras until I had that lump removed. I always wear a high impact sports bra now, on the surgeon's recommendation.

orienteerer · 05/03/2011 20:23

I've always worn a sports bra when skiing.
