Would I be stupid to wear Hunter wellies plus snow grip yaktrax or do I need proper snow boots?

As per the title. I'm wondering about Hunters plus mega thick socks for warmth plus Yaktrax to ensure a good grip?
These are the Yaktrax thingies.

Or do I really need snow boots?

Snow boots really are far, far warmer (especially with the thick socks).

But anything with yak-trax will work well enough for anti-slip, so it probably doesn't really matter.

I think even with very thick socks you will find your feet will get cold. Wellies are no good for keeping your feet warm.

Thanks guys. I struggle with cold feet anyway so it does sound like proper snow boots will be better.
Might get some yaktrax anyway for other shoes.

Any snow boot recommendations? I like the Merrell ones but want black and there only seems to be brown left.

Sorry, I bought in resort - they're mildly hideous, but look OK up a mountain (they're also the warmest and grippiest I've ever owned).

These look nice - any thoughts?
Do they look warm enough?
I would rather be able to try them on than buy online though.

And are snow boots sized with space for thick socks??

if you are going to a ski resort, you need snowboots not wellies.

some of the surface will be ice, some hard snow, and some wet snow. A soft rubber sole is quite good as it will grip even hard shiny ice, whereas a hard sole won't.

As you will sometimes be in wet snow or slush, any absorbent surface will get very cold and wet, as well as dirty in the village.

shops and bars will not want you wearing anything spiky, and it wioll probably slide on a stone or tiled floor.

get your boots from a ski place not a fashion place. You are not looking for a walking boot intended for hiking. The warmest thing I have ever found was moon boots.

Have posted this in style and beauty too but which of these should I go for?

or

Slightly worried the Mammal ones won't be wide enough at the top as they go quite high up.

Any views would be great.

Def not wellies. I always use walking boots (and not expensive ones) with thick socks (ski socks usually!) and it works well for me. Never felt the need for snow boots. DH and DSs (4 and 6) wear timberland / walking boots and we have not had any isssues.

but it is all personal preference. I can wear my boots with jeans / saloppettes....the boots you have posted look fine, but will they do what you want them to?
