How much do you ski in a year?

I am interested to know how often/how long other families get to ski each year. I would class myself as an enthusiastic skier, and would love to take us all away for a few weeks per season (if money allowed) but I can't get all the winter school holidays off(and never christmas, because of work rotas etc).
So at the moment we are taking them out of school for 1 week before half term, but i am wondering whether to take them away the last week before christmas, as they don't do much at school then anyway (on my observations this year), and then maybe a week at easter.

DD is 5 and Dts start school next year.

Hmm, I think you can do it for less than that if you a) book late b) go outside school holidays (but that depends on an amenable school of course).

Snowbizz priced up a holiday for me just recently, it was self-catering for the week of 26th feb, and for 2 adults and two children including childcare, lift passes and ski lessons x2 hours per day for us adults it was (I think) just over £2100.

It's never a cheap holiday because of the cost of extras. I think you're in a better position if you've got older kids who don't need childcare or ski school, and you're willing to put together your own trip. Then you can go to lesser-known resorts and definitely do not need to spend anywhere near the £2000+ amount. For example, lots of resorts in austria and italy do family weeks in march where kids stay free in hotels.

We went in Jan, took the kids out of school to go to the French Alps. Had a great week, but when we got back, I just could accept that that was it for another year. Its not enough! So at the weekend we went to Glenshee (2.5 hr drive) not as glam as the alps, snow wasn't great but we all had a great time. If they get a bit more snow will definitely go again. (lower west facing slopes very patchy)

Susan - We spent 3k for a week for 4. Could def do it for less (i.e. we had 2 bed aptm and in France eating out is v expensive, Italy much cheaper)

Sooo thinking about going again abroad at Easter. Our school hols begin 30 March (Is England the same?) I've never been that late in the season before - so don't know what to expect. Any tips on where to go or how to get a good deal?

We are going to Val D'Isere with Esprit next March (17th - week before Easter holidays), For the three of us, including lift passes, DD's lessons, chalet hotel accommodation (and food), flights, childcare and DD's lunches it is £2100. That isn't bad. All we have left to pay is our ski hire (is cheaper to do separately), DH's and my lunches plus our dinner on the Chalet Staff night off.

Now, given that the ski passes alone are £580 (£210 each for DH and I, and £160 for DD) we think this is a very reasonable price. But, we get that price because we have booked already for next year.

We would love to fit in another, sneaky week at Easter this year as we went in January (due to DD dance show in March) but we just can't afford it this time around.

The Lecht in Scotland is fantastic for small children.

I have been skiing three times this year. Unfortunealy that isnt 3 holidays to the alps but 1 day at the Lecht and 2 mornings on Cairngorm.
