Vaujuny - OK for beginners/intermediates??

I'm thinking of going with my dc for a short break in February. We like wide, easy blue runs - for meandering down without too many thrills. Is Vaujuny a good place for this? I read somewhere it wasn't great for less confident intermediates. Is this true? And would it be best to get the full lift pass with access to Alpe d'Huez?

We recently went to Sainte Foy and really enjoyed it but now feel the need for somewhere a bit bigger.

Thanks for any input.

Hi sweet may I just hijack your thread to ask about Sainte Foy? Who did you go with/where did you stay/pros and cons etc

Thanks!

Never been to Vaujany but my friend says it's a great place for intermediates, she goes there every year with her children.

Been to Val Cenis and that's got loads of wide blues, longest green in Europe, lots of ski-in-out accommodation. Been past other Maurienne valley resorts of Termignon, La Norma, Aussois and they look great for family skiing and are not well known by Brits.

As February is peak time for French resorts, I would concentrate on trying to avoid the places with big queues (tend to be used alot by British TOs) and also you may find it hard to get accommodation within your budget on a short break during this time, many hotels have a minimum number of nights and apartments are mainly on weekly rentals in this peak period. If you find something in your budget in a place you like, just take it. I'm off to Vallorcine/Le Tour for a short break in February, staying for free at friends' home, otherwise would not probably be choosing to ski at this time - it's the company which is more attractive than the skiing to be honest! Vallorcine is a very small resort, but I am still expecting the crowds as it's on all Chamonix passes. So good luck finding something.

Thanks for the feedback. Not sure if Vaujuny quite gives us what we want but will look further. I've never heard of Val Cenis so will check that out as well.

Tulpe - we went to Sainte Foy with peak retreats, going self-catering and driving down. It was great - drive was fine both ways and accommodation really nice. We really liked the resort and it suited us really well. Pros are it's quiet - absolutely no lift queues - in fact no queues anywhere (and this was Xmas week), no problem getting in to eat at restaurants, really friendly atmosphere, excellent ski instructors (we did ski school). Only cons were sometimes we felt it was a bit too quiet at night, limited choice of places to eat and really expensive so we generally cooked in the apartment. Also a very small ski area which was fine for us as we were all beginners/level 1 but even so we felt we wanted a bit more by the end of the week. However, although there weren't that many runs they were generally uncrowded and the snow didn't cut up very much at all so it was good to ski on them. We haven't been skiing much so don't have much to compare it to and I guess if we go somewhere else that's a bit more crowded we might rush back to Sainte Foy again! Also we did have the car so I suppose we could have driven to Val d'Isere or Tignes if we really wanted to.
