Scottish Skiing Anyone?

Just me and DS going this year as DD is with the school in Colorado Envy

I wondered about Scottish skiing although we are absolutely tied to February Half Term, ie Feb 19th onwards. What does anyone think of Scotland? Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay, resort etc. We have only really been to Austria before, my fave being Kirchberg.

I would go to Aviemore if you are going for a few days as there are other things you can do there if the weather is not good for skiing (it can get a tad windy....!) There is lots and lots of self catering in Aviemore if you fancied that, you can get your shopping delivered by Tesco which makes things a bit easier. There's lots of places to eat, some better than others!

From Aviemore, Nevis Range is about an hours drive and Lecht is about 40 mins I think, so you can have a variety of skiing if you want or need to - sometimes the weather can be dreadful at one centre but much better at another.

My fave centre is always Glenshee as it has the best terrain for my level of skiing but it's nearest town is Braemar which whilst lovely, is not the most exciting of spots. Also the accommodation is limited and there are virtually no child friendly eating out places in the evening (plenty of daytime cafes). It does have an AWESOME chippy though.

The Lecht is friendly, ideal for families with younger children and beginners of any age. They have a "magic carpet" lift which my 3 year old could manage, and a state of the art cafe/ski hire ski school/ bar building which would not look out of place in the alps. It is easily reachable from Aviemore, Grantown, Colymbridge or Ballater. Ballater is also near Glenshee and has a lot of accommodation B and Bs and large hotels and is a lovely little tourist town near Balmoral.
Look at winterhighland.com has live webcams showing all resorts and conditions with like to all centre websites.
Starting to sound like Tourist Board Smile .
