OK, you might remember last year with uni I did skiing lessons at Tamworth Snowdome. I passed all of them and am now the recreational standard. I'm going back on Wednesday, first time in just under a year. I always had a problem on the moving walkway lifty thing on the main slope, that I'd trip/lose my balance getting off at each stage. I need to know how to get off the thing gracefully as I don't want my mates to laugh at me! Also, any tips for going back, and how to make ski boots as comfy as possible? Can I get shorter skis because I'm small or is that a bad idea?

Help!

You shuffle off as soon as your tips start to leave the belt and get out of the way as quickly as possible. Keep your weight and moemntum forwards ! Is there no button lift there instead as that coudl be easier? Are you sure you are ready to go alone, may be worth having a refresher lesson to begin with? Skis should reach between chin and nose for a beginner? Too short and you won't get the speed you need to turn smoothly. Boots you just need to do up firmly and wear proper socks, if they pinch let them out a notch or try another size.

LIZS, I'm sure I'm ready to go solo, did so during my final lesson so I could be assessed. This is just something that's causing a hiccup at the moment. There's a rope tow but that only goes halfway up, I'll start on that I think :)

Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know how it goes :)

i am thinking about this. when you first go have a couple of goes up the rope tow and work your way up the slope till you can come from the top of the rope tow - this should take 3-4 goes i would think, and get your 'ski legs' back.

do you ski with poles? you will find it much easier to manoevre on the flat with poles. they are available - ask the guys at the hire desk to help you get the right size.

go slowly onto the tramelator - little steps so your feet stay roughly together. warn the person behind you're not very good and ask them to give you some room. at the top just start shuffling off - small steps.
at the very top i would advise using the black rubber mat to get onto the slope, at least until you a bit settled in, it is quite a rollercoaster slide i find!

you will enjoy it loads once you get started - don't lose your coffee voucher though!

Thanks guys, unfortunately I now can't go tomorrow as the group couldn't provide transport and I have had a bit more work piled on me, so will probably be next month now :(
