Have bought a ski lodge which we are rennovating to rent out dont want to kit it out in the indenti-kit ikea or faux rustic mountain chalet style...but would like to achieve a contempory, boutique, french style with the emphasis on comfort....from your experience would this be welcome? what special touches would you value...ideas for furniture, accessories, colour schemes etc please...let you imagination run riot

i think you need to have things that are easy to clean (?wipeable leather sofas). i don't think people care too much about the decorating schem as long as there are plenty of places to sit (comfy chairs)a table to eat at and plenty of clean bathrooms (with sinks to wash hands in). oh and space to store skis etc.
and ideally a dvd player with a collection of entertaininkg ski/snowboard dvds (but that may be just me) or maybe books to read.

i think you should do it out like a bond villan hide out - retro cool!

where is it by the way? sounds very exciting. what made you do it? I always fancy buying somewhere but can never quite justify it.Envy

It is in the village of Vaujany which is part of Grand rousses/alpe d heuz ski area...we went for it because it is wonderful in summer also - really hot, stunning views, lots to do in an out doorsy heidi style...adventure sports etc...so it justifies itself as a year round investment

When I go to the mountains I love to live in a chalet-style décor. It's part of the experience. I care deeply about it. I want log fires, red gingham feather duvets, wooden chalet-style table and chairs, big comfy armchairs and sofa, huge wardrobes...

and a nun singing doe-a-deer....

Yes, a dirndl in the wardrobe won't go amiss either!

greygirl · 01/10/2010 15:35

but seriously i would like:
duvet covers with a high thread count,
a chess board
space in every bedroom to get changed
a balcony with a view of the mountains
a big framed piste map for comparing trips during the day
a kettle to allow me to make tea whenever i wanted
an en suite showerroom
and most importantly - fantastic skiing (which you have, lucky thing)

have a look at VIP ski their chalets are very nice
the other essential for me is boot warmers
lots of towels of a good size

greygirl · 01/10/2010 15:53

wow, that would be ace. my mates did a chalet in white company linen and put lots of booker prize books on the shelves in the bedrooms. the only trouble (i thought) was that 1 room had no ensuite (there was a 'main bathroom', which also was very close to the 'lounge area' so you could hear the noisy people when you were trying to sleep. there was 1 toilet on the main floor, near the kitchen, but it had no sink! so in the night the people in this duff room had to go downstairs to the loo/to wash their hands, if they needed to. they moved chalet's after that (they were renting it for a season).
sp bathrooms and sinks are important to me!
I guess now i would want some kiddie amusment too.

Agree re. greygirl's suggestions.

For me I'd like a big table to have dinner/play games round and a good selection of cooking utensils as it annoys me to hell when I go self catering and there is no grater, or a lack of colander or something.

This place is amazing

This is the perfect place for Xmas

This is probably my fave as it looks so cosy but stylish

DastardlyandSmugly · 01/10/2010 15:58

Love Hotel du Vins though so would be happy with that style.

Lamps so you don't have to have horrible (IMO) overhead lighting.

I think you can't beat white/cream bedding. It always looks crisp and fresh.

At least two pillows per person, especially if they are feather ones.

Flannels for the bathrooms, not just towels

Decent blackout linings on the curtains so the bedrooms are darkened properly.

Good luck and post some picture when you are done!

Just drove down with a van load of furniture to the lodge - my husband def wanted the Bond theme decor which I would have loved too if is was just ours but as we have to rent out wanted not to alienate any markets have gone for warmth, comfort and contemporary rustic chic bit of a mix so have the chunky chalet table with chairs with cut-out hearts but the sofas are large velvet squishy...lots of wood and chandeliers also delighted that I have struck a deal with the chef in the established catered chalet to provide ad hoc in chalet meals - so people can self cater or have full catering or mix and match - I am very excited about this bit as I think that I will be doing that when I am out there said to my mate today that I not only have a holiday home but a holiday hotel builders in now then we are there for 2 weeks at Christmas...

Nice big hooks and plenty of them to hang your salopettes on. Plenty of seating for putting boots on. Real fire. Quality beds and non saggy sofas and lots of hot water. Easily pleased

greygirl · 12/11/2010 18:21
