Why Mums Net ?

Gibbo68 · 23/04/2010 09:48

What about Dad's ? My Husband's a stay-at-home Parent & I work outside the home.
Everything is so Mum-centric & excludes Dads.

Should Mumsnet be renamed ParentNet ?

no,we've had this before MANY times!!

look in topics part.....you'll find a dadsnet in there as well as gransnet!

YesYouMust · 23/04/2010 09:59

What excludes dads? The name? Plenty dads post on here.

AMumInScotland · 23/04/2010 09:59

Men are welcome on here. But they are a minority and have to understand that it is a largely female site. That gives it a different vibe from a site where there are equal numbers of men and women. So no, it should not be renamed parentsnet.

If he wants to post on here about parenting issues, he'll be made very welcome. And there is a specific section for Dads to post if they want to get a more male-heavy viewpoint.

YesYouMust · 23/04/2010 10:01

Oh and if it were called parent net it would exclude those who are not parents, going by your rules, not very inclusive either.

WhoIsAsking · 23/04/2010 10:18

boo-hoo

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 23/04/2010 10:25

Plenty of fathers post on here, as do grandparents, childcare professionals without their own children and a surprisingly large number of interested non-parents. They could rename it ParentsAndNonParentsNet, but it's not exactly snappy.

Because we can?

chaostrulyreigns · 24/04/2010 14:32

Look beyond the name...........

BeenBeta · 24/04/2010 15:22

Gibbo68 - wouldn't be the same if it was no longer Mumsnet. As a Dad it really does not bother me at all.

Aitch - oh look, I took Dad out of my name just for you.

UnquietDad · 04/05/2010 15:52

Dads post on here... but, it would seem, not as many as before.

Doesn't surprise me, really.

UnquietDad · 04/05/2010 16:05

There is a Dadsnet section but it is fairly moribund. Sad really.

frakkinnuts · 04/05/2010 16:05

Peoplesnet?

Much more inclusive and PC.

prettybird · 04/05/2010 16:29

Does Mothercare's name mean that Dads can't go in there?

And why does it stock children's clothes?

What about "Boots the Chemist" - it sells lots of things that aren't normally found in a chemists.

The name goes back to its origins, not what it is now. Dads (and even men) can and do contribute when and how they like. There may even be hairy truckers who are not even acknowledging their gender.

The point is the quality of the discussion - whether you are a mum or a dad, a parent or no intention of being one, trying to conceive or been through it all a long time ago - or just want the company. If you like it, stay and join in. If you don't, go elsewhere.
