i was watching that clip earlier, val. he looks very ... what's the word ... gender normative there (ok, that's 2 words). wonder how old the clip is.

i'm going to bed now before i lose an entire night to youtube ...

LittlePushka · 23/03/2010 00:40

1995 I think laPlume

LaPlumeDeMaTante · 23/03/2010 00:42

i'm very confused by the article you linked to, barry - the girlfriend of the bloke in hospital somehow aged 4 years between november and the following january

maybe that's what being in a hostage situation does to you.

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 23/03/2010 00:55

btw wrt the singe, i am absolutely certain that he said dans l'arbre in the show i saw, i'd bet my life on it. me and ex-bf were saying it all the way home, le SIIIINGE est dans L'AAAAAAAAAAAAARBRE. let's ask him if he changed little bits of his act to keep things fresh.

Slur · 23/03/2010 00:59

I am slightly embarrassed to admit but when I was watching his story of many marathons I turned to someone nearby and said...

"I am going to make my children watch this because he is a proper hero"

I am praying I was drunk at the time. However, it is true he is an incredibly interesting man and accomplished and smart and funny with it.

LittlePushka · 23/03/2010 01:02

yHey lesinge...yes, it was....

mais,...le siiiiinge est dans l'aaaarrrrbbre!

I remember this because I was in a french ambulance once, bleeding everywhere and the crew asked me, (in French) if I spoke French and I just laughed and said:

Non, non...mais...le singe est dans l'arbre.

I saw the funny side but I think they thought i was neurologically damaged!

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 23/03/2010 01:08

hahahahahahaha v funny, you're lucky they didn't commit you.

so basically my name sorts the sheep from the goats wrt to those who have seen the live shows or the vid.

take that, pedants.

LittlePushka · 23/03/2010 01:08

No Slur...thats a great thing to think!

He is driven. I admire driven,...it is a heroic quality to have - and an admirable one!

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 23/03/2010 01:10

look mate, i cried when he was in his mum's back garden. no drinking involved. when he said that he'd been happy there.

LittlePushka · 23/03/2010 01:18

Me too Le Singe - because I have 2 little boys and it struck home. I had NO idea that such a young child would feel the acute loss so profoundly. He seemed so very clear about life before and after and I was really saddened by it. Such a heavy heart for such a funny man to bear.

Bumperlicious · 23/03/2010 03:06

Oh yes please! Most of his comedy is unmimickable because it's all in the actions and the eyes! But the other day I did randomly find myself reciting the Englebert Humperdink lines here, and then is he dead make me PMSL! It's the eyes!

ProfYaffle · 23/03/2010 06:22

Val - we call them Hodder Dodder's too! I even referred to a push along lawnmower as a Hodder Dodder too, causing much confusion.

LaPlumeDeMaTante · 23/03/2010 08:15

LeSinge - yes, i remember him doing a lot of le siiiiinge est dans l'aaaaaarrbre, but then he pointed out that this was complete nonsense in terms of how prepositions work in french because the monkey would literally have to be inside the tree. this isn't the bit i remember but it's funny anyway

(would also like to point out that i was only 14 at the time of the 'dress to kill' tour, & as such didn't really get to many any stand up gigs! the vids were the only access i had to the wonderfulness of eddie )

GoldenSnitch · 23/03/2010 08:38

Confused my Mum the other day. 13 week old DD was doing that constantly moving arms and legs thing that small babies do when awake and looked for all the world like she was swatting insects. I said "she's covered in Beeeeeees" Much chuckling from me and furrowed brown from my Mum

Regularly empty the dishwasher as Jeff Vader too "This one is wet, this one is wet, this one is wet"

Please MNHQ can we have Eddie. Pweeeeeaaaaassse!!

HelenMumsnet · 23/03/2010 11:07

Whoo hooo!!

mistlethrush · 23/03/2010 11:43

I met Dara O'Briain at a wedding last summer and had an interesting, quite child-related conversation with him which makes me think he would also make a good person to have a webchat with....

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 23/03/2010 12:26

and we could get him and david mitchell on su's weight loss thread... they're shrinking.

TheCrackFox · 23/03/2010 12:43

I think a webchat with Eddie Izzard is a brilliant idea.

Oh David Mitchell. Nooooooo. You can't invite David on here. I'd get all inappropriate, proposition him, attempt to explain why we're ideally suited and he'd take out an injunction. Save me from myself, don't have Mitchell on here.

ProfYaffle · 23/03/2010 16:25

Yes, yes, yes to David Mitchell! He pushes all my geeky little buttons. Even dh would happily let me shag him (and shake his hand afterwards I suspect)
