and before I get jumped on I would be asking the question if it said Vote Labour.I'm interested to know what discussions mnhq had about this.

They have advertised on here before, as have Labour, think the MNHQ side is that if they have the money they are happy to accept them advertising.

Providing they are equally willing to let all political parties (apart from BNP!) advertise then I can't see the problem tbh.

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 12/03/2010 19:51

Doesn't bother me, I don't think any of us will vote or not vote for any certain party based on an ad though, will we?

Nancy66 · 13/03/2010 12:24

It wouldn't bother me - it isn't MN sayig it, it's still the Conservative party.

In the run up to the election there'll be everywhere...

Sadlou81 · 13/03/2010 12:27

STOP IT WILL MAKE ME VOTE CONSERVATIVE STRAIGHT AWAY
fgs we are smarter than that

cocolepew · 13/03/2010 12:41

Wouldn't care I take no notice of the ads (sorry MNHQ)

hatwoman · 13/03/2010 12:56

"fgs we are smarter than that..."

I don;t think adverts are going to make mners vote one way or another in particular. my question was actually quite specific - about mnhq's discussions. editorial and advertising policies, and maintaining neutrality (if that is the desired end), is actually quite a complex affair - and one I find quite interesting. it's not as easy as saying accept everything or as saying reject everything. and, as I said, I wondered what dicussions mn had had and what approach they had decided on. (it may, in fact, just be "accept everything", but if that's as far as they've got they'll probably need to revisit it should the BNP ring up wanted to place an ad.)

I guess really it's a q for mnhq - rather than a general post. but I was also interested in what other people thought.

I did a double take when I saw it, but MN is a business and if I were in charge I'd accept as much advertising as possible and make the most of it being the mumsnet election. None of us are stupid enough to have our votes swayed or whatever by one advert

crumpette · 13/03/2010 13:04

OK I rephrase if I were in charge I would accept every piece of ''appropriate'' advertising revenue that is not likely to offend, so the BNP would be likely to offend many MNetters, whereas the conservative party are, on the whole, a bit less offensive.

thumbwitch · 13/03/2010 13:08

I'd prefer it if they had an ad that just said "make your vote count - go and vote" but so long as they have ads from all decent parties and aren't allied to one in particular it wouldn't bother me.

I'm sure Labour only got in last time because of general apathy.

nighbynight · 13/03/2010 13:26

It doesnt bother me, any more than seeing posters by the side of the road. And it's a good way for the political parties to reach those of us who don't live in the UK.

I dont think it is anything to do with bias at MNHQ:

orienteerer · 13/03/2010 13:27

Not a problem.

tatt · 14/03/2010 08:46

what ad?

Tee2072 · 14/03/2010 09:12

Well, if I saw ads, which I do not as I use Adblock Plus, it wouldn't bother me.

MN is a business. Businesses need revenue to stay open. Advertising is one form of revenue.

Would you rather they charged you £50 a year to post here?

OliviaMumsnet · 15/03/2010 09:29

Hello and sorry for delay in replying to this.

We've already had some tory and labour ads - last month in fact. But we wouldn't take any from BNP
