Dear mnhq, it's about moving adverts again

If there is another thread about this then I'm sorry. I've had a shufty in site stuff and can't find one.

The thing is I really, really do not like moving adverts over there ->

It doesn't matter what it is, the gurning kid from cbeebies, the Bold man stroking himself, Jackie Chan and a piglet that runs at unnatural speed...

My eye is drawn and it is annoying. It is so annoying that I am actively put off whatever is being advertised.

I know there is some sort of doohickey for hiding ads but I don't want to do that as every now and then I do click on an ad, and I know it's how you generate income.

See I can see a hula hoop ad now that is perfectly still and lovely, oh I see there is a bit flashing at the bottom but that is OK. I am thinking about hula hoops in a positive upbeat way. I do not have the same feelings for Jackie Chan.

only me then who is distracted my moving pictures.

I'm going to do a feedback for you on the ads I've seen today. Just so you know my feelings on these matters.(because I know you care )

So at the moment I've got the tesco baskets on the R and boden up the top. Boden is fine as it is static. Tesco is moderately annoying, say a 6 ot of ten, the jumping basket is occasionaly making me think grr, stop your jumping, you jumping tesco basket.

I've had First Choice as well, which although is moving, is sloooooowly moving. And there is sea on it. I'm going to give it a 3 out of 10 for annoyance.

Hula hoops are winning by a mile.

I agree with you Slubber. It's really annoying...

And the Thomson family has annoying eye-catching changing words... so 3/10 annoyance factor

Rhubarb · 12/03/2010 13:16

How do you block them?

Yes it's very annoying, esp that Bold one where the guy stroked himself and then grinned smugly as if to say "They've picked a male model like me because we all know you mums like a bit of eye candy and will let that influence what washing liquid you buy, you sad, brainless housewives."

SlubberFailedAtLent · 12/03/2010 13:22

I agree Rhubarb, and then HERE IS THE PRODUCT just in case you didn't know Bold was a washing powder you bunch of dim wits.

I had not clocked the changing words Catilla, but as I hadn't then I'm still on 0/10.

Lenin, I feel a moral obligation to keep the ads tbh. I get all this great stuff out of mn for free. I don't feel I can deny mn its income. I'd just prefer still ads.

I'm most annoyed by the longevity of these adverts and the frequency with which we see them. Not to mention the content. I mean, the baby in the Persil advert is about as gorgeous as a baby could ever get, but even old softy me is getting a little tired of her now . And the mum seems fairly clued up, why would she need a lesson in bathing a baby? Baby must be about 3 or 4 months old by now, it would be a bit much if she hadn't had a bath yet.

SlubberFailedAtLent · 12/03/2010 14:07

I don't get the Persil ad. I wonder why? Does mnhq know I don't have babies anymore?

I guess they do as it's on my profile. dur

but still, how do the persil people know I don't have babies?

OP posts:
bibbitybobbityhat · 12/03/2010 14:11

I don't have babies either!

I do use Persil though. Hmm.

Are you sure you don't get the Persil ad? I get it about every 30 seconds!

SlubberFailedAtLent · 12/03/2010 14:13

nope I've got the great little trading one now, with blonde middle class children in bins.

5.5/10

My baby is 6 and a half and his older sister is 9.

SlubberFailedAtLent · 12/03/2010 14:18

Do you have to refresh to get another advert? All I have at the moment, no matter which thread I look at, is the Mumsnet ad for its own books.

I completely ignore the ads, always have. A naked man could streak across the ad space and I would not notice it

SlubberFailedAtLent · 12/03/2010 14:57

yay, Flashblock installed. No more moving ads but the static ones are still there.

Thank you SO much Lenin. You are a complete star.
