Potty training product reviews?

NumptyMum · 27/02/2010 19:42

Would it be worth/useful to have potty training product reviews? I've had to look elsewhere for reviews (eg toilet training seats, as we have non-standard toilet seat) and was surprised to see no review section on Mumsnet...

Am off to search past Potty Training threads for their expertise.

I'll be coming into all of this soon, myself so will suggest VERY strongly but make no promises.

Surely its the child that potty trains or not? Rather than the potty/wet mat/star chart/toilet seat/ potty to go ....?

NumptyMum · 02/03/2010 09:42

Yes, but on the other hand it's useful to buy a toilet seat that actually FITS your toilet and doesn't tip child off!

BUt how will a review help you? It still might not fit your toilet?

All this paraphenalia is just a marketing ploy. You just need a potty for downstairs and big toilet. No need for eeking it out longer than necessary imo.

I agree it's not worth buying all the crap products that are marketed, but on the other hand it's useful to know what IS worth buying from the people who've actually used them. We got a cheap as chips potty from Ikea but DS doesn't want to use it at all, and is happier sitting on the big loo but a) he has to be held otherwise his bum falls in and b) I don't want to be in the firing line of wee. So I looked at reviews on other sites and there ARE seats that fit non-standard loos (and the people reviewing were kind enough to say so and what type of non-standard loo they have). Just seemed like it was something missing from Mumsnet... I'm now also wondering what if anything I need to get for grandparents house as we fly south to them and I don't want to travel with a loo seat. So would use reviews to check other options (eg we could get same seat again, or portable/converable potette thingy) but would probably actually buy from eBay.

So having reviews DOESN'T mean that people have to buy into the whole marketing malarky.

Hi!
Must say was REALLY surprised to see no product review on toilet seats. After much, much research and wasted money have discovered BABY BJORN toilet training seat. Consistent great reviews. It has a dial you turn on the underside which adjusts to fit your toilet.
Bought the Thomas Tank seat from Mothercare and it slipped and moved around. Bought the cheap white padded ones and as soon as DS sat on it it pressed down under his weight and gave him a real fright-has only used potty and refuses to sit on the toilet.
Baby Bjorn has adjusted to fit very securely on my loo and does not move around.
Best price was with Bambino Direct 15.99 but ended up cancelling my order with them as they would not respond to emails, could not get thru' to them on the phone-was on hold once for over 30mins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KIDDISAVE saved the day. They matched Bambino Direct's price And I got free delivery!
Yes its pricey, but they're going to be using it every day for at least the next year. Best investment you'll ever make.(smile)

Another vote for the Baby Bjorn one here. Though I bought it full price at John Lewis. Sturdy, light and surprisingly easy to carry around. And DD likes the teddy bear on it.

I love the pottette plus. Easy to use foldable travel potty (with liners to throw away with the waste in them) and it doubles as a toilet seat too. I even use it as a potty but with no liner if my toddler wants a wee out in nature and it means she is not weeing on her shoes.

We use the Little Bjorn potties at home, 18 month old DS finds them easy to sit and stand up without knocking them over.
