I haven't dared get kosmic yet! DH downloaded it onto his machine (also dual boot) and got quite a few problems (mostly resolved now with updates) so I am waiting for them to iron out all the wrinkles before I update.

Not sure how DH feels about me using him as a guinea pig

I love the DIY tinkering aspect of Ubuntu. DH and I have very different attitudes to problems. DH frantically googles the Ubuntu forums and downloads every possible add on, patch and kernel he can lay his hands on.

I wait it out for the next update. Both usually work... eventually

DH managed to banjax the wireless by fiddling about with the kernels trying to get skype to work with pulseaudio (don't ask), but luckily the Karmic update sorted it. Sigh... it's like an IT version of having him in a garage under the car.

Here at MNHQ we'd much rather no one used Internet Explorer - the site looks miles better in either Safari or Firefox which in fact look pretty much the same (use customise to make it so). But IE has horrible fonts and other annoyances.

Sadly, however, when I last looked at Google analytics (about 5 mins ago), it showed that majority of Mumsnetters are indeed browsing in IE:

Internet Expl. 60.58%
Firefox 23.06%
Safari 11.73%
Chrome 3.16%
Opera 0.48%

For an optimal Mumsnet experience, though, we recommend that you IE folks change your browser.

(Not so keen on the adblockers though )

I think I might have been included in 4 out of 5 of those percentages, Justine [geek] - I was comparing the infamous 'gaps' thread on IE, Chrome & Firefox as well as the iPhone a little while ago.
I actually like the look of MN on Chrome, but I can't make it remember my zoom settings like Firefox can.

Sadly I have to use IE at work because Firefox doesn't seem to like our proxy server/Exchange set up & I have to be able to switch out of MN at short notice if any one approaches....

JustineMumsnet · 06/11/2009 22:56

Well if you can't make Chrome remember your zoom settings Rusty, ain't no way I'm gonna try messing with it.

I like Firefox (customised to new) so if you'd all just sort out those settings, that would be marvellous.

Many thanks.

Bleatblurt · 06/11/2009 22:56

Mine looks the same on IE and Firefox. I am confuzzled.

alwayslookingforanswers · 06/11/2009 22:57

I have a selective ad blocker - it lets me "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" particular ads.......some have stayed............some have gone (I've never intentionally clicked on an ad on any website I use )

Bleatblurt · 06/11/2009 22:57

Ah, the font is a teeny bit smaller on IE but can't see any other differences.

You are all talking Swahili on here .
