can we have the option to add a PS to an Opening Post?

sometimes i have posted and realise too late that i have missed out a key point from my OP which affects how pople interpret/ respond the thread. even if you later 'set the record straight', many people dont read the whole thread, so respond to the thread without having the full picture.

could we have a PS facility, whereby a new post could be added to the OP to avoid confusion?

OP posts:

YES PLEASE
I ask for this regularly and am ignored

2shoestrodonalltheeggs · 03/04/2009 23:00

no
wopuld be daft as people would do it half way through a thread.

FAQinglovely · 03/04/2009 23:04

I think an"update" thing would be quite useful - not so that you can alter your orginial post (as that will make the following posts sound like rubbish) but instead to "add to"

Quite frequently on threads I see an update from the OP half way down the thread, but those that have only read the first few posts don't realise this and the thread goes off on a tangent again.

FAQinglovely · 03/04/2009 23:04

"wopuld be daft as people would do it half way through a thread. "

exactly

PS - this is what happened/what I did/I've changed my mind. etc etc

Trinityrhino · 03/04/2009 23:06

would be perfect to be done hpalway through a tyhread also
so that people who dont read the whole thread still it

notnowbernard · 03/04/2009 23:06

would spoil the flow, IMO

'PS' function might be used as a cop out, is what I'm trying to say...

Am thinking AIBU? here, btw

BoysAreLikeDogs · 03/04/2009 23:07

No

That's why we have 'preview'

FAQinglovely · 03/04/2009 23:09

but boys - preview doesn't cover for the

"well I sat the test and I passed it" does it on a "ooooo I've got a test today" type thread???

fishie · 03/04/2009 23:10

no. far too many people only reply to op and don't read thread, this would make it even worse.

TrillianEAstraEgg · 03/04/2009 23:12

No, not keen.

When I look at a thread that I;ve already posted on I go straight to the end of the thread. If the OP wants to say something new and it goes up by the first post I won't see it.

notnowbernard · 03/04/2009 23:13

Surely that would be more of a bump type thing, FAQ?

I think a 'PS' function would allow a lot of controversial/'me me me'/ignorant AIBU threads to come back and alter the original OP, in view of initial responses

IYSWIM - I've had too much wine tonight

FAQinglovely · 03/04/2009 23:13

"far too many people only reply to op and don't read thread, "

exactly they don't see that 372 posts later the OP has updated with something crucial so fly off at the deep end basing their opinion on the OP rather than how the issue on the thread has evolved!

MamaG · 03/04/2009 23:14

wot faq said

fishie · 03/04/2009 23:14

then when it is pointed out they will feel stupid and not do it twice.

TrillianEAstraEgg · 03/04/2009 23:15

Maybe some kind of highlighting so when skimming through a long thread we can see posts by the OP would be good, but they should appear in the correct chronological order.

FAQinglovely · 03/04/2009 23:15

well maybe it' just me then that often pops back onto threads purely to see what the outcome was - and I don't really have time to be trawling through possibly 100's of irrlevant posts before I find where the OP has updated it.

notnowbernard · 03/04/2009 23:17

I skim to look for OPs name if I am following a thread

If I was that interested I would do a search on their name

FAQinglovely · 03/04/2009 23:17

a "ps" or "update" on an OP could appear as

"updated @ 23.42 5th April" with any updates so the OP will still be in chronological order.

I use page format, "skimming" through a long thread that's 20 pages long to find the OP's "highlighted" posts would be as big a faff as it is now without it highlighted.

TrillianEAstraEgg · 03/04/2009 23:19

But FAQ if it goes just by the OP then it is in the wrong place for those of us with no lives who sit and watch the whole thread go by, we might miss it.

(I use pages too btw )

FAQinglovely · 03/04/2009 23:20

if you use pages then the OP is always at the top of the page when you first click on the thread so you wouldn't miss it

2shoestrodonalltheeggs · 03/04/2009 23:20

it would help though if you do something that upsets 99% of mn in your thread title, you then realise and say sorry and change the word.
...............no they would still tie you to a stake and........
