Editing and Deleting our own posts

Why can't we edit and delete our own posts as other forums allow?
I'm really bad for missing a key word in a sentence and it would be great to put it back in. Also spelling...!

Sometimes it just doesn't come across the wayt i wanted it to at all and would rather delete it.

The problem with editing and deleting posts, IMHO, is that person who is not getting the answer they like will go back and change their story.

And deleting just leads to disjointed threads.

Deleting own posts is one thing. Editing could be misused. It's a pity we can't append comments to them.

Littlefish · 21/03/2009 08:50

I agree with Tee.

AIBU: post deleted by posted
OMFG!!!!!!!!!! YABVVVVVVU! I can't believe you even posted that

Now tell me you wouldn't be insanely curious!

MerlinsBeard · 21/03/2009 18:57

because MN is not like other forums...it can be like a living hell sometimes with bitch slaps being thrown all over he place. Editing posts will only ever lead to abuse here imo.

However, i do think MNHQ should be able to lock threads should they feel the need

Hi all, as you know we try to interfere as little as possible on the boards as by editing and deleting things there's the issue of censorship, which we try to avoid. We know it can be frustrating if you feel your post hasn't come across in the right way or you've made a glaring typo, but we can always withdrawn it for you and there's nothing to stop you re-posting pointing out your own errors or trying to say something a little differently. And, if anything, those kinds of posts can help conversations feel even more natural (or is that just me?!)

CatherineMumsnet · 21/03/2009 18:59

withdraw instead of withdrawn obviously (see what I mean!)
