Why does my computer keep shouting at me?

I'll be typing away in the message box, then something happens and it will only do Caps. The Caps lock is NOT switched on.

And when it does this weird thing, I find I can only open things in new windows. So if I click Active it comes up in a new window.

The only way I can stop it is if I switch the entire computer off. I've just had to do it now.

It only happens in MN. It didn't happen for ages but has happened three times in as many days.

I touch type and I wonder if I'm accidentally pressing some keyboard command?

Any ideas?

GOSH, I DON'T KNOW

Sorry, MaryBS, couldn't resist that!

We have got some funny glitches happening at the moment but no one else has reported the caps or the new windows ones (yet).

I'll mention both to the Techs tomorrow for you. Hope you don't get too frustrated with it all before then.

Look in control panel at accessibility options. Untick all the options on the keyboard section and see if that cures it. I reckon it will.

THANKS HELEN

Sorry, i know, but that's exactly what it feels like LOL.

Onager, I'll give that a go.

What's Sticky keys?

OI!!! IT WASN'T ME IT WAS THE OTHER MARY!!!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 25/02/2009 21:09

And it is only in MN that it happens. I can type away happily on Word without it going wrong.

I don't think I ever type so much on any other internet site so i don't know about that.

Hi Mary

I saw another one the other day. Say's she's Mary Queen of Arkansas!

Sorry, both Marys.

MaryBS · 25/02/2009 21:49

I think I prefer cheeses

RustyBear · 25/02/2009 21:54

Well, holding down shift and clicking a link makes it open in a new window, so it sounds as if you've got a sticking shift key.

Don't know why it only happens on MN, unless you always eat sticky doughnuts when you are on here....

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 25/02/2009 21:59

Oooh, that's an interesting theory. And could explain why it's occasional. Maybe not MN's fault after all....

How do you know about the sticky donuts?

Pressing Shift 5 times turns on sticky keys, which is designed to allow you to use shift, ctrl & Windows keys by pressing one key at a time. Could you be leaning on the shift key without noticing it?

It's also possible there's a conflict with your mouse driver - do you have an intellimouse? I once came across this problem, though in that case it was the control key that it affected - they had to update the mouse driver.

No it's not the sticky keys thing. I've tried pressing the shift key five times there and have had the sticky keys thing pop up, but I can still type normally when I turn it off.

I don't think I have an intellimouse. It's just one of those touch pad things on the laptop.

You know, since I mentioned it this evening, it hasn't done it again.

Computers can read what you write, can't they

Maybe it is the doughnuts then....
