Emergency planning thread

Mumsnet, can we please have a board for people to post about the government messaging around emergency planning that has been in the media for the last few days.
There is thread after thread being made on the main chat boards all saying tbe same thing.
Go on please do what you did for Covid and give people their own space to discuss so the rest of us can get back to enjoying Mumsnet without having to dig through the numerous threads all saying the same thing.

I just came over here to make this exact request.

Yes, I know I'm not compelled to read them but its as boring as hell to scroll through AIBU/Chat/trending to find multiple "scared of the warning/what do I need/why do I need" threads.

Some of the posts are giving full MN 2020 cheese in coffee vibes too.

Discosnake · 24/10/2026 15:19

I am voting for as well

TeenToTwenties · 24/10/2026 15:20

It will be a here today, gone tomorrow thing.
Plus there is this board already Preppers Forum UK | Mumsnet
We don't need another one just for a 3 day prep.

DoubleBusy2026 · 24/10/2026 15:21

Yes please! 🙏

MonsterasEverywhere · 24/10/2026 15:41

Agree with this please!

DrFoxtrot · 24/10/2026 15:47

There’s already the Preppers board, why don’t posters use that?

DrFoxtrot · 24/10/2026 15:48

The Preppers board comes up often enough in Active so I’m surprised people haven’t noticed enough to use it.

Discosnake · 24/10/2026 15:53

I don't think these threads would fit into preppers board tbh

ThreeNewWords · 24/10/2026 16:06

Surely this is exactly what the preppers board is for!

Agatha1989 · 24/10/2026 16:21

I’m fed up of reading about it, it’s just like when Covid first hit.

Because the 3 day supply is. very different to some of the prepper stuff.

So start a thread called '3 day prepping' on the Preppers board?

Yes this 👆

MrsPernicious · 24/10/2026 16:33

The Government has published resilience advice for households since May 2024. While the ‘Be Ready’ campaign has seen the previous “Prepare” website updated with new messaging and branding, much of the advice has not changed and remains evergreen for households to follow.

The message has been the same for two and a half years. However, surveys show that most people are neither aware or prepared.

Most of the threads will blow over in a week or so. But a few people risk being informed. So, I'd like to ask MN to keep the threads where they are.

couchpouch · 24/10/2026 16:33

@TeenToTwenties Why? I am not the one complaining about all the threads on various boards am I? 😆

The kind of crazy threads that are being started wouldn't really fit with the peppers board to be honest.

That is a good point and I also agree with PP that it would raise awareness if they stay where they are and just blow over after a few days.

Haven't seen them, but if they are crazy, why would they fit better on an Emergency Planning topic than a Prepper topic? All topics have their crazies. We can't set up a crazy version and a sane version of each topic.

PrettyLittleRose · 24/10/2026 18:24

MN are not going to do this.

It's not really about 3 day prep though, its more about panic and doom mongering.

Reviving because this is now getting hilariously yet annoyingly crazy 🙈

Pretty please

They would fit ok.

Tbh it's short lived. It's just as annoying when people post threads about all topics outside the boards set up for them. Royals, Brexit, middle east wars etc. all irritating when you swerve the topics.

I don't think "i washed in preparation" fits on preppers😂 or wailing about war...

I don't think the preppers will care. I remember during COVID times there were posters who calmed peoples panic on the preppers board. Having a plan and how to do the practical stuff helps.

Even the daft threads are welcome, then they're tucked away out of the main boards.

It’s getting ludicrous.

The over anxious, the ones who just lack comprehension of what has been said, the ones with conspiracy theorist DHs, the over thinkers, the clueless.

Thread after thread after thread.
