Automatic scrolling glitch

Hi Mumsnet,

I’ve recently started experiencing a glitch where when I load a thread, it automatically slowly scrolls by itself and I can’t scroll very well. I have screen recorded what happens and can share this with you. Is there a fix for this?

I am using Mumsnet on my iPhone in safari.

happening again to me. It stopped for a while but today it’s really bad.

Happening to me too, it’s making the site unusable.

IPhone 17, safari.

Came looking for a thread on this… me too, safari on iPhone and also noticed the movember ad so agree that could be the cause…

SinisterBumFacedCat · Yesterday 00:42

iPhone-Safari

it’s the movember ad, automatically scrolling but at an awful juddering speed that is completely undreadable. Same thing happened last week.

PashaMinaMio · Yesterday 08:25

It’s defo the Movember ad.
I was looking at other topics with a different advertisement (bike support for bike repair) then went into a topic carrying the Movember one.

Auto scrolling started immediately. I knew what it would be, scrolled down & hey presto the Movember ad popped up.

Please get it stopped. It makes the site tedious and un-usable.

I thought the problem had been solved but have just been on a thread with the Movember advert and it started again.

Same here - it’s the Movember ad

Electricsausages · Yesterday 09:37

Yes it’s happening with the movember add

This is happening to me too on an iPhone 15 using the Safari browser and it’s not just an irritation or an inconvenience - it’s an accessibility issue. It’s causing problems for me due to a disability and this will be the case for others too.

I don’t know if MN care about meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines but this is the one you are breaking: https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG21/Understanding/pause-stop-hide.html

I don’t understand why you are throwing your hands up asking which adverts are on the page. You should get your devs to globally disable auto-scrolling on the site, end of story. Why haven’t you done that already?

This one. Happening on nearly every thread today. Can’t then use the buttons at the bottom of the screen as the page is moving.

Identical problem same ad…it seems to be the ads with videos. Driving me insane

EntirelyUnnecessary · Yesterday 19:54

Happening to me too

Simonjt · Yesterday 19:56

Same, I only get this on threads, on the active screen etc with thread titles it doesn’t happen.

Lucyintheskywithnoidea · Yesterday 20:01

Happening here every now and then too.

ArtisticSwimmerinLaneOne · Yesterday 20:12

Same here for the past 4 weeks - ipad’s (multiple) Safari. IOS.
Whilst using in both UK and in Europe.
It’s simply complete advert overload for me and taking way too long to load any meaningful content.
It’s becoming increasingly unusable.
