Old threads reappearing

For some reason old threads (that haven't been bumped by a new post) are re-appearing which is making boards very difficult to follow. It's happening a lot on the femininism board and also here on site stuff.

This really annoys me too @YoucancallmeAI Apparently it's not against the rules though. It is annoying to see a thread bumped back up from 6+ months ago, and I don't know why people do it.

The first sentence of the OP's post. My italics.

For some reason old threads (that haven't been bumped by a new post)

Threads get bumped when spam gets posted on them and MN removes it without comment making it look like they’ve just reappeared for no reason.

I got my head bitten off by a crabby poster for commenting on a two year old thread that had appeared on my active feed. Why they bothered to just prolong a long dead thread I don’t know, but I do make an assumption that if it’s in active, it is current.

Ah. Thanks for the explanation. I know there has been a troll that's been quite active so that's probably what's happened. The one's I saw have disapeared again now, so looks like MN have done something behind the scenes.

Hello OP - JaneJeffer is right here - it was a spammer. They should fall off active soon enough if not already. Thanks.

Tbh I don't think you did get your head bitten off by a crabby poster
You posted on a thread which was obviously 2 years old and someone questioned why you had done this.
We get spats of people deliberately going through old threads- some as old as almost 10.years - for whatever weird reason- so I think it understandable someone was exasperated by you doing this.

@IncredulousaboutlifeYou’ve clearly taken the time to look, which baffles me. The comment included words in capital letters, “Why on earth”, double question marks. It was not a gentle correction or information for anyone considering adding to the thread.

My point here was that the thread was not “obviously” 2 years old because it was in Active. If I had searched for something specific, I would check the date on the threads that come up. I wouldn’t in Active.

If this is in fact a frequent problem, maybe people could point out a little more kindly that it’s an old thread for those who quite reasonably assume active means active.

I only looked because I did wonder if it was actually myself who had pulled you up on resurrecting a dormant old thread. I have sometimes advised posters who have posted on old threads to start their own thread rather than resurrect an old one.
In your case it wasn't me.

I always look at the dates of posts so I suppose i assume others do the same.

And I don't think resurrecting old threads is a frequent problem but generally when a poster does it on one thread they do it on a whole swathe.

If you did it accidentally then fair enough please don't worry about it. That's fair enough.
