Can we have a Wanker's Corner?

Hello.

It's been noted in the past that there are some pretentious wankers amongst us who like to discuss some general subjects (eg.Porn, Religion) in a fairly, erm.. academic manner, and that this sometimes seems to intimidate and/or infuriate other posters.

There doesn't seem to be an easy solution to this problem: there's no doubt that people really do feel intimidated and that it might prevent them from posting on a subject that concerns them. It also must feel hijack-y at times.

At the same time, it's hard for the Wanker's to be told that they mustn't post anything that might intimidate.

Would it be possible to have a special place, with very hard chairs to keep us awake, that we may call our own?

Onebat - Are you moving to Chingford?

onebatmother · 27/06/2008 21:24

Good grief no! Not even to get into Butterflies catchment area.

We're staying where we are but hopefully in a slightly bigger hutch.

I am really, really good at wankery...

Swedes · 27/06/2008 21:26

Onebat - If you are ascending the property ladder it is sensible to wait for the property pit of despair.

motherinferior · 27/06/2008 21:31

With Property Lions in it?

onebatmother · 27/06/2008 21:37

ah, MI, we've been expecting you..

Actually Swedes, we thought we've found a wreck that was not really on the marked and underpriced (only way that we can do it) but in fact they've just pulled out. I had to tell vile property developer we had a buyer lined up in order to get them not to auction it, we agreed 8 weeks to exchange for an extra 5K (would have been totally doable even last month)but they've discovered I was um, exaggerating. Am gutted. Serves me right but I did feel as though I had to be v erm, proactive otherwise it will never happen and I will be living in a shoe-box for ever.

Sorry to hear that onebat. Bummer.

Swedes · 27/06/2008 21:45

God that is a bummer. Can you salvage the deal?

onebatmother · 27/06/2008 21:49

I think if we get the offer we need in the next 10 days it might be possible. But actually I think things are barely moving round here and we are definitely at the top of the market.

snoop away.

Swedes you are allowed to mock btw. Do I remember that you've already mocked my modernist furniture on a previous thread?

OP posts:
onebatmother · 27/06/2008 21:50

sorry

Habbibu - Johnnie Boden: Favourite Battle - Hastings.

onebatmother · 27/06/2008 21:55

Jonnie wears a snood and links combo with hotchpotch elbow detail.

OP posts:
onebatmother · 27/06/2008 21:59

Ethelred: worst fault: Unready.
Ethelred wears summerstripe tabard with chainmail tapered boot.

OP posts:
Habbibu · 27/06/2008 22:01

Oh, now now, wanker. Unraed - ill-advised. Do I have to kick you out of your own corner? Do I?
(would join in the medieval Boden pastiche-ing but my medieval knowledge sadly far outstrips my knowledge of the Boden catalogue)

onebatmother · 27/06/2008 22:03

fuck I did know that, God wot.

OP posts:
Habbibu · 27/06/2008 22:04

hmm - narrowing down list of educational establishments onebat could have attended...

Swedes · 27/06/2008 22:04

Onebat - Your house is lovely.

onebatmother · 27/06/2008 22:09

Why thank you Swedes but very very small.

Ooh ooh Habbibu how are you narrowing it down?

OP posts:
Habbibu · 27/06/2008 22:11

Don't think that many places teach much in the way of Old English on a lit course, and I have you bracketed as a proper lit graduate. The list is not terribly narrow as yet, mind. Will have to stalk you some more.

Swedes · 27/06/2008 22:14

Habbibu - are you a science graduate?

onebatmother · 27/06/2008 22:14

Aha but how did you clock Old English? 'unraed' is a pub-quiz question

though annoyingly you're right.

OP posts:
Habbibu · 27/06/2008 22:16

Nope, swedes, humanities. Bit of a science wannabe - A'levels and all that, so OU for me in the autumn. Onebat - I can spot OE at 100 paces. And sometimes Old Icelandic...

stuffitllama · 28/06/2008 09:45

Hello wankers, good luck with the property thing OBM. Nice to see lots of italics this morning. This corner is nice, if you don't get a dedicated area you should start your own zapatas type thread for wankers to come to with news and views (and cliches). And general blithering. Then you don't have to wait for someone to say something controversial before piling in. And you can have s too.

motherinferior · 28/06/2008 12:31

I once won a pub quiz as the result of my MA thesis on Edward Lear .

Isn't, ahem, 'unraed' Anglo-Saxon not Old English?

Habbibu · 28/06/2008 14:05

Old English and Anglo-Saxon are essentially synonyms. OE probably more accurate for the language of early medieval England as a whole, as it changed and developed from the original language(s) of Angles and Saxons who settled in the country.
