does "thanks " mean:

"thanks, i shall think about that and take it on board"

or

"thanks for nothing you unhelpful cow"

?

second one methinks

southeastastra · 20/06/2008 22:14

its sarcastic, i hate that face

KatyMac · 20/06/2008 22:15

I usually use it t imply I am a bit dippy/undecided/confused

I would really like a confused one

Tortington · 20/06/2008 22:15

its not a nice thing whatever it means.

i would dearly love a pensive emoticon

in a "thats a thought" or "i'll think about that - rubbing chin way

think it means the second one hun,

Amphibimum · 20/06/2008 22:17

i like pensive one

i also want a big square eyed, omg in speechless one.

bran · 20/06/2008 22:17

I doubt it means the first, but it doesn't necessarily mean the second either. It depends on context really.

It could mean, "thanks, but you haven't really understood my question/dilemma" or "thanks, but you are stating the obvious and I have already tried that" or even "thanks, that would be useful if I had all the time/money/patience in the world, but I don't".

OracleInaCoracle · 20/06/2008 22:17

hmm thought so

I use it sarcasticly, or in a raising one eyebrow at ds way.

Custy's pensive emotion suggest is good - me likey.

Amphibimum · 20/06/2008 22:18

i understand that some people mean as vague or whatever... but i always read it as 'youre talking shit you piece of crap'
maybe i need to deal with persecution ishooos?

solo · 20/06/2008 22:18

I'd say it depends on the context of the conversation. IMO.

bran · 20/06/2008 22:19

It could even mean "thanks, but you have made me feel even more inadequate than I did before". I am often tempted to use it when people post things about motherhood being all about sacrifice in response to someone who is clearly struggling.

LadyOfWaffle · 20/06/2008 22:20

Depends in what context - if you asked "is my DH cheating on me" or something like that, and the person concluded yes he was, then you may reply "thanks " but not aim the at her kind of thing...

OracleInaCoracle · 20/06/2008 22:20

i agree that a pensive emoticon is a fab idea!!

it was in response to an early tester who i told was testing too early and should wait.

I'd like one that tilts it's head to one side and curls one side of it's top lip up.

As in EH??????

OracleInaCoracle · 20/06/2008 22:23

lol or a back of the head one!

OP posts:
PortBlacksandResident · 20/06/2008 22:26

Please try not to take it to heart Lissie.

Amphibimum · 20/06/2008 22:29

oh lissie, fret not. her ishoos are nowt to do with you m'dear.

OracleInaCoracle · 20/06/2008 22:30

i know i shouldnt but ive been brooding on it. i just felt a bit put out, i'd tried to help...

Doodle2U · 20/06/2008 22:33

Dunno if this will work but I really wish we had this one.

OracleInaCoracle · 20/06/2008 22:34

littleboyblue · 20/06/2008 22:35

I had one of those in a reply for something I'd posted and took it that she was saying, I'm not sure why that person acted like that, like it was strange. I hope the person in question wasn't being nasty

Doodle2U · 20/06/2008 22:35

Happens to everyone on here sometimes Lissie, I think. Feels crap but it's not really personal - she doesn't 'know' you and she may have meant it in the "I'll take it on board" sense anyway!

Amphibimum · 20/06/2008 22:37

doodle, yeah, thats close to the sort of one i meant... tho in my mind the mouth is straight.
