Do ads go through any kind of vetting/approval process here?

I know it’s pretty small fry in terms of media messaging in the grand scheme of things, but this one popped up on a thread for me and doesn’t really seem in the spirit of the site.

I’ve been here quite a few years under various names, first discovered mn when pregnant with my first dc.

This just seems poor messaging to women imo. I think it’s the ‘perfect’ but that’s got to me. Not distraught/pearl clutching etc but just wanted to point it out.

I think it will take a while for my photo to be approved. It’s an ad for some sports leggings- mocked up so left hand side of the image is a woman without the leggings and right hand side is. There is a big difference in the thigh circumference when the leggings are on (imo quite an unbelievable difference I’m not sure leggings can achieve), and the message is that if you wear them you can have ‘perfect’ thighs.

Unfortunately OP there are a lot of ads on MN that don't seem " in the spirit of the site".
I certainly agree with you about this one.

I can't even begin to think what it will be like when the site is sold given how the ethos of the site seems to have changed, and quite rapidly, in recent times.

I'm fairly sure Mumsnet have no idea what ads will appear to specific users, as I presume it will be governed by an algorithm looking at all the cookies on your phone and seeing what you've looked at before on other apps and sites. Is that not how all online ads work these days?

I really haven’t searched for sports leggings designed to slim my thighs before. Maybe to do sports in but I’m not even sure I’ve done that 🤷‍♀️
A more than 1 second glance at things seems to make algorithms think we’re obsessed and want to see them all the time. I got stuck in what seemed like a quite intense dr who world on twitter a few years ago when I clicked on a post about it. I’ve barely even watched it!

I assumed if someone was paying my organisation money for an advert then I’d want to ensure it aligned with the values of my organisation.
It seems this isn’t how adverts work anymore though. I’m old fashioned and presumed the companies did deals with the hosts but obviously not.
I work in the charity sector so quite different but we would definitely feel a responsibility for any messaging that appeared on our website.
So just a general rant about advert messaging rather than mn specific then.
