Why does the site accuse me of posting "too much" after two measly posts?

And, additionally annoying, why does it only do this after I've already spent the time assembling the post?

I think the system that MN has explained is fine. It doesn’t need (and possibly can’t) to stop you before the moment of posting as Start Thread isn’t the trigger and you could take longer to post. Now you know the issue, simply copy your text so it’s on your clipboard if the thread is denied and you can easily repost it. No one needs to post two threads so close together anyway, just wait a beat, you’ll still find out whether people prefer skirts or trousers and it’ll be worth the tense wait!

OoooopsUpsideYourHead · 11/08/2025 23:51

Meh!

I'd rather a slight inconvenience like that than a board full of spammers, which is what we often got before MNHQ introduced the filter.

HeddaGarbled · 11/08/2025 23:52

Oh, just get over yourself. What a fuss about nothing.

saraclara · 12/08/2025 00:26

Spammers are an absolute nightmare for forums, and Mumsnet has had huge issues in the past. I think that this is the most minor of inconveniences to bear in order to keep them away.

You object to simple homelife questions? Isn't that one of the main functions of forums like these?

No that's what Google is for.

So how long DO eggs stay fresh?
Asking for a friend.

No. You apparently don't understand the distinction between fact and opinion. Perhaps you'd like to check the thread from the woman hysterically posting about constipation, though.

Well, if that's the reasoning, the easy solution would be to prevent multiple threads started by posters who have only been here a month, or whatever cut-off they might choose.

Amazingly, eggs are fine even months after the expiration date.

Are you the one who was rude on the cinema thread? You’re being a bit rude here too.

They've already found an easy solution.

You just happen to dislike it.

Omg I saw a thread where a woman (nurse) was suffering a genuine medical crisis because of constipation - hardly comparable!

No that's what Google is for.

Google a lot of things, and up pop Mumsnet threads about it. So people start by Googling, and end up here. Okay?

RedDoorBlueHouse · 17/08/2025 00:30

As I have sometimes had problems losing longer posts I now tend to write all my new posts in notepad and then copy and paste them into a new thread. Then if there is a problem I can easy try again.

TrousersOfTime · 17/08/2025 00:46

The thing is, OP, Mumsnet has thousands of users. If every one of them started multiple threads every day, the site would be totally unusable.

MN forums are for discussion, not just asking questions, so you should be replying to other people's threads more often than starting your own. Otherwise it just becomes a site full of posters shouting into the void.

I disagree. I think it's exactly comparable. She could have Googled something like: best emergency cure for constipation.

thinklagoon · 19/08/2025 08:53

But in that thread she also got emotional support and solidarity, additional suggestions when things didn’t work, some “keep your chin up” jokes during a quite horrible medical episode. The thread went on for a decent amount of time, so it obviously benefited people. “I don’t know how to look at the date stamp on my box of eggs” is a one-page thread at best that benefits no one. (And if you need emotional support, solidarity, discussion and jokes to make it through deciding if an egg is questionable then, again, a Mumsnet thread isn’t the answer.)

Completely different. On that thread the OP got support, suggestions that had worked for them personally etc. It was a discussion. There’s not much discussion to be had about the freshness or otherwise of an egg.
