Posters being deleted and continuing to post more comments and being deleted

There have been a couple of threads recently on the Royal Family Board where one poster in particular has had many deletions in the past few days. I think on one thread alone there were 4 or 5 . It has now continued again and there have been several deletions again today.

I thought that posters have been banned for less deletions than this so am asking what the score is ? Are there a certain numbers of deletions you are " allowed" ? I'm sure I'm not the only one that wonders about this. After all no one wants to be banned either permanently or temporarily even. While i understand that MN will not discuss specific posters are there certain guidelines that we should be aware of ?

They have probably been here for years and they tend not to permanently ban someone who has been here for a long time

Even if they get 4/5 posts deleted on one thread? I thought there was a limit on deletions, not protection for long term posters?

BigWillyLittleTodger · 19/04/2025 19:10

I was wondering the same, I thought that after so many instances of breaking talk guidelines you get banned for a while at least, is it different rules for long term posters?

I just found this on the section re Trans talk . Is this only for those discussions or everywhere?

I'm sure I've seen people deleted far more often than that and continuing to post.

I was hoping for something from @MNon this.

There are special rules for FWR.

Samcro · 20/04/2025 12:41

moderation on the royal family topic is different from elsewhere i think.

They do ban people who have been using the site for a long time. I believe permanent bans are rare.

IAmATorturedPoet · 20/04/2025 12:50

So particular sections of the site have different moderation rules?
Is this correct @MNHQ ?

They don’t care how long you’ve been here.

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/04/2025 12:53

Perhaps give HQ a bit of leeway today and tomorrow, seeing as they are bank holidays? They probably have reduced staff on.

True and I realise it is a difficult question .

If that was the case then I would expect there to be a statement similar to the Feminism Board.

Any update on this @MN?

Thanks for posting, @themightysossidge - it’s a completely fair question, and we appreciate your concern.

We don’t usually discuss the specifics of moderation decisions around individual posters as we just don't think it's fair on the poster. However we can absolutely clarify the general approach.

Deletions are usually a response to posts that breach our Talk Guidelines, and yes, a repeated pattern of deletions can lead to a temporary or permanent ban. But it's not a strict numbers game - we look at context, intent, and patterns of behaviour over time.

For example, someone might have several posts deleted in one thread but show a willingness to engage constructively after that, while another user might cross a line more severely with fewer deletions. We always try to take a fair and proportionate approach. Everyone needs to stick the rules no matter how long they've been around, but it makes sense that we'll be slower to ban a long term poster who has not given us much cause for concern than someone who joined a week ago and is straight in with the personal attacks.

If there is a user or users who you think we need to revisit, please drop us a line rather than name names on this thread. Hope that helps clear things up a bit, and feel free to shout if you have any more questions.
