This started about 3 weeks ago with constant crashing. Now it’s freezing too and taking ages to load,

BeckyAMumsnet · 20/07/2024 17:32

Thanks for letting us know and our apologies for the problems you're experiencing with the site.

We're going to look into what is causing the issue and in the meantime, it would be helpful to know which device and browser you're using to access Mumsnet (if you've not already told us). If you're on iOS, please let us know which version.

Any screen recordings of this occurring would also be really useful - if you're in a position to do this, please send to contactus@mumsnet.com

Thank you.

HebeMumsnet · 22/07/2024 21:48

Hi again everyone. Thanks for the further info. If anyone is able to get a screengrab and tell us where on the site they've seen this issue in action, that would be really helpful. Thanks!

DawnMumsnet · 23/07/2024 11:40

Thanks for posting these screenshots. We're checking things out and will be back with an update (and probably some more questions!) just as soon as we can.

In the meantime, we're sorry for the disruption. Thanks for bearing with us.

LilyMumsnet · 23/07/2024 19:31

Hi folks,

Blocking adverts has an impact on us, because ads are how we keep the lights on. Unfortunately, we can't spend time investigating issues that are caused adblock when we're losing revenue as a result of them.

Mumsnet is built to show adverts and blocking them can stop the site from working properly. We would suggest removing these. It's also worth clearing your cache so your browser doesn't store out of date information.

If you're experiencing problems and you're not using ad blocker, please can you send a screen recording to contactus@mumsnet.com? We haven't managed to replicate this yet, so it'd be helpful to see the journey here.

HebeMumsnet · 24/07/2024 10:05

Thanks @bigbadbarry. We'll have a look at that thread and see if it tells us anything. In the meantime, if you manage to get a screen video of it happening (you can even just video it with another device), do send it in. You never know what it might show up that might help. Thank you! Flowers

LilyMumsnet · 26/07/2024 21:05

Hi OP

Can you confirm how many posts you're viewing per page and let us know if you have cleared your cache?

HebeMumsnet · 29/07/2024 09:41

Thanks @bigbadbarry - we'll look out for your screen video.

If anyone else is in the same situation as @CoffeeCatsAndVodka (ie is having this issue but is NOT using an adblocker) if you're also able to send us a screen video of what's happening that would be great. There are apps you can download, but otherwise you can just use a second mobile device to literally video your screen if that's easier. They can be sent to contactus@mumsnet.com. Thank you!

Hi all,

We're still investigating this - thanks for all the information so far. We're missing device and browser information for the users we've tagged (you may have given one without the other). If you've been tagged, please can you let us know what device and browser you're using to access the site?

HebeMumsnet · 14/08/2024 10:09

Morning, everyone.

We're afraid we haven't been able to find out what the problem here is yet. We are still working on it though and will be back as soon as there is any update to share with you.

Thanks for your patience. Flowers

LilyMumsnet · 19/08/2024 16:00

Hello,

If you're still experiencing issues with this, please can you let us know if you've tried clearing you cache and cookies yet?

BeckyAMumsnet · 28/08/2024 13:59

Hello, everyone. We appreciate your patience as we continue efforts to find the cause of this issue. If anyone can help with any of the following, that would be very useful to us:

1: Please share links to specific threads where the issue is happening

2: We want to identify if this is geo-specific problem and so knowing your location would be useful. That doesn't mean we want to know exactly where you live so don't worry! But if you feel comfortable sending us an email with your location (e.g Manchester) then please do so.

3: We're also interested in what privacy consent state you are using on Mumsnet? You can check this by going to: 'privacy settings' in the footer of the Mumsnet website > consent pop-up appears. What have you pressed here? Accept and close or Reject all?

4: Those on iPhone or iPad, do you have 'private relay' turned on? You can check this by going to: device settings > [your name] > iCloud. It will say here if it is turned on.

Thanks again and our apologies for the time it's taking us here. It's a bit more complicated than we first anticipated.

MNHQ

HebeMumsnet · 02/09/2024 12:29

Afternoon, everyone.

For anyone still experiencing this issue, could you also try changing your privacy settings (privacy settings is linked in the website footer) and then selecting 'Reject-all', and let us know if this stops the issue? Thank you!

HebeMumsnet · 04/09/2024 10:05

Thank you to everyone who tried that. We're getting there slowly and it's good to be able to eliminate things.

To get us to a solution quicker, we wondered if anyone having this issue would be prepared to jump on a call with two members of our Tech team and share their screen so we can see exactly what's happening. It would take about 15 minutes.

If anyone has the time to do that, let us know here and we'll be in contact.

Thank you!

HebeMumsnet · 16/09/2024 09:46

Morning, everyone. Good to see that the 'reject all' option in privacy settings has at least worked for some people.

We're still looking into this and will update when there's any news. In the meantime, if anyone has to time to do a quick call with our Tech team and share their screen with them, that would be really helpful. Just drop us a line here and we can contact you off the boards and get it set up.

LilyMumsnet · 26/09/2024 12:43

For users who are still experiencing this, would you be able to join a call with our tech team? We're struggling to replicate it and we think it'd be really valuable for solving it.

HebeMumsnet · 07/10/2024 10:35

Hi there @TipsyTiger ! We're so sorry - we didn't spot your email! Or did you DM one of us? Either way, we would love to talk to you. Can we ask you first what device and browser you are on, how long the issue has been going on, and if it's any particular thread that's a problem. And also if you have cleared your cache and cookies?

If you can let us know those details here, we'll get someone from Tech to drop you a line and arrange a call.

@DontStopMe - if you're also willing to have a chat with someone here we'd be most grateful. If you could post the anwers to the questions above too, we'll be in touch to arrange a convenient time for a call.

Thank you, both Flowers

HebeMumsnet · 14/10/2024 09:41

Good news @DontStopMe and @PinkDreamer . Long may it continue! Do get in touch again if any further problems.

@Jigsawpuzzled - Thanks for getting in touch. If this happens again do you think you could get a screenshot for us? If you are able to click on the ad and get us a url too that would be even better. Thank you!

HebeMumsnet · 16/10/2024 09:38

Thanks @DontStopMe . That's a useful summary and will hopefully help out @g1c2d3 .

Those of you seeing a large Nespresso ad - we'll look for this now. If anyone sees it again and can click on it and send us the url that will speed things up a bit, or a screenshot would help a bit too so we can see what the problem is. If it's able to be closed it might be that it's behaving as it should but we'll happily take a look.

Hey Everyone,

We've had lots of feedback that threads are freezing and crashing on the website and this is often caused by the 'see all' posts page setting. We're launching an update that we hope will fix this and improve the thread reading experience. Sign up now to test the update before the release and let us know what you think!

We are looking for people (particularly people who use the 'show all' posts on threads setting) to test the update and feedback about how it works for you.

Step one: Fill out this short, two-minute survey to register your interest in testing this update. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8THJJQQ

Step two: A select number of people will be invited to join a Zoom call to try out the update and feedback directly to us. You are guaranteed to receive a £10 voucher upon completing this call.*

Step three: We will contact more people to take part in a longer test where you can access the update on your own device at home. All you need to do is use Mumsnet like you usually would over a week and feedback on how the site is now working for you via email. Take part (and feedback), and you'll be entered into a draw to win a £250 voucher to say thank you**.

This information is used entirely for developing Mumsnet features, so please give us any information you feel comfortable with. All information is held in accordance with Mumsnet's Privacy Policy which is GDPR compliant.

*If you sign up and complete a Zoom interview with us.
**If you sign up and complete the diary entries task with us.

Thanks all!

Rebecca

Hey @ShikShakShok and @Itisjustmyopinion,

Thanks for getting in touch. By 'see all', we mean selecting 'all' in your talk settings. I've circled the area of the settings on this screenshot. If anyone thinks that applies to you, then please sign up. I'd love to chat with you about this on Zoom.

Constantly crashing and freezing.

Rebeccaatmumsnet · 06/11/2024 16:05

@ShikShakShok It might be worth you signing up to meet with me anyway and we can see how the new experience works for you? Sign-up above and I can book in Zooms tomorrow, Friday or early next week.
