That's great Hebe, what would be helpful would be a commitment from MNHQ to back up posters who do take on educating other MNers, because quite often when you try and explain why language is problematic, you get snarky and defensive reactions...

ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2024 17:27

Thanks.
Yes, education (as evidenced on this thread as you say) is usually effective. It may take more effort than report&delete, but it's one worth making. I expect if someone who has been affected by csa can't deal with engaging on a thread then if they report a post MNHQ would be happy to step in and do so.

That's interesting. I was unaware and checked some (Irish) news reports.

I didn't particularly want to be searching or reading these reports but certainly it's still in use here, the latest being December 2023.

I can fully understand the reasoning. Thanks for explaining.

I'm anti-porn full stop, never regarding it as a benign or neutral act though of course accept porn isn't illegal, and anything featuring children is. To be the term is applicable as an insidious, illegal element of pornography.

Im in ireland and i complain to whoever uses it each and every time i see this term used.

That's fine. It is however used in court proceedings, in evidence given by Gardaí and in sentencing (I did some research on the back of this thread).

I appreciate OP's thread and viewpoint; I also think MNHQ response is fair & balanced.

As I said in my post, I do not regard any pornography as being benign or acceptable, though clearly whether it's illegal or not will depend. I am entirely anti-porn, in the main regarding it as offensive & subjugating to women.

Hi everyone. Thanks for your understanding and for engaging with this. Do let us know how it goes. In answer to @DrSpartacular 's question, we'd hope that if people using these terms are engaged with on a level and in a civil way, they'd take the information on board. But if you ever find it blows up and ends in nastiness or taking a thread off track, do hit the report button and just quietly let us know. We're always happy to pop onto a thread and try to smooth things out and we'd be happy to explain if necessary that while we don't automatically delete posts for including these terms we've encouraged posters to discuss the problem with them on the boards, rather than simply report them to us.

Supported.

BUT the deletion message must spell out why 'child pornography' is an unacceptable phrase.

"Child pornography" makes it sound like it is a subset of pornography, whereas it is actually a subset of child sexual abuse.

A good explanation.

Supporting this too n
