Is it ok to deliberately do a thread which is a reverse?

Just that really, or does it contravene talk guidelines?

I like a reverse, but other people don't.
I think it's considered bad form.

icelollycraving · 28/12/2023 17:17

They really piss people off but it’s not against the rules as far as I know.

GreyOrange · 28/12/2023 17:20

I guess I more mean, you want advise on your brother in law but instead you pretend it’s your son in law instead, to add a layer of anonymity

That’s not a reverse.

That's not a reverse. A reverse would be where you pretended to be the BIL wanting advice on his sister in law.

NewYearNewYu · 28/12/2023 17:21

No that’s not a reverse and on an anonymous forum how would anyone know?

3luckystars · 28/12/2023 17:21

I think it’s really misleading and it aggravates almost as much as fake threads. It’s stealing peoples time.

True. MNHQ possibly if they could be bothered to look at your other posts on other usernames.

Everybody should be fudging specifics for anonymity's sake. A reverse would be a friend broke your vase and you were fuming but you posted as if you had been the one who had broken the vase

Changing details of family members, locations, ages etc. (rather than creating reverses) is common to avoid posts being outing. No one will know as long as you don't trip up, e.g. say your 'son-in-law' but later mention that your DC are aged 10 and 8.

JingleSnowmanTree · 28/12/2023 17:27

As others have said, that's not a reverse!

changing details to add a layer of anonymity is fine as long as it's not relevant detail.

BIL is a plumber, not an electrician is fine.

BIL is SON in law makes quite a difference, depending on the post.

It's also so obvious when people do a reverse. The same as the tiresome "Person A and Person B" scenario. Green, snaggle-toothed, witch hat wearing Person 1 does something exaggeratedly repulsive, whilst angelic butter-wouldnt-melt Person 2 has a completely unrealisticly calm happy, incense burning zen response to it. Somehow (through us not being given the full story) Person 2 is made out to be the devil, boo hoo. But of course no one can possibly guess who is the writer in this scenario.
