Idea - flags on thread titles.

New development idea inspired on another thread by @AnUnreasonableWoman

OPs should have a tool on the "threads I started" to add a coloured flag at the start of a thread title as displayed in the listvof threads.

White flag - I have received MN wisdom and have changed my mind since the OP - further scolding robust criticism is not required.

Yellow flag - please make sure you read all op updates before responding as further important information gets added later.

Grreen flag - I admit later down that this is a "reverse"

Red flag - this thread has turned into a total bunfight/slanging match you may not want to wade in.

There could also be a blue flag not under the control of the op which is added to a thread title if someone ignores the "are you sure you want to resurrect this zombie thread" so that we don't have mulitple posts of "oh this is a zombie thread" keeping it active.

Idea - flags on thread titles.

Great idea, but you know the idiots will ignore the flags!

YireosDodeAver · 28/12/2023 12:39

The idiots will. But non idiots could use them.

Another auto-added thing could be a colour (purple maybe?) for dump-and-run threads where the op posted something controversial and then never joined in beyond that - added if a week passes or 200 non-OP messages are added with no posts from the OP engaging with the responses.

It’s a good idea, but if someone doesn't have the sense / courtesy / functionality to read all the OP’s posts, they’re also not going to check what a flag means so that would have to be very obvious.

Whataretheodds · 28/12/2023 13:01

There is never a good reason for not reading all OP's posts before replying!

Agree, noone is going to check colour codes.

The zombie thread warning is a good one but unfortunately it only takes on person to resurrect it and then that warning disappears.

YireosDodeAver · 28/12/2023 13:05

I agree not everyone will use them but I would and experienced mumsnetters would start using them.

The zombie warnings disappearing is annoying - I would hope the flag would be a permanent thing that only gets removed if the op returns with an actual update.

It will be a no because electronic readers/speech to text devices cannot easily read non-text. I do get what you are saying, and for the majority it would not be a problem.

SerpentEndBench · 28/12/2023 13:13

And yy to Zombie Warnings staying.

Hi OP

Just swinging by to say thank you for the suggestion - we'll have a chat about it in the office. Flowers

Ha! thanks for the namecheck - I was just looking on here to see if there was an existing Site Stuff thread to resurrect, after seeing yet another pile-on in which the OP generously conceded they were overreacting within the first ten posts, and yet the 'education' went on and on and on and on and on and on.

I appreciate the thrill of the scold is a thing, but the way threads can quickly escalate into a pasting is unpleasant, especially for new posters who probably just back away horrified from the whole site, let alone their thread. Maybe there could be an option for the OP/MN to edit the first post, for people who can't even be bothered to isolate the OP's posts to get the full picture?
