Where has 'quote' gone?

Whataretheodds · 04/09/2023 12:56

It was really useful for building on or endorsing a PP's reply, or answering their question or sometimes correcting misinformation.

It seems to have disappeared. I can still see 'reply' which doesn't tag them or quote their post, and doesn't seem any different from replying to the thread?

OP posts:

Reply is now identical to add post, it used to tag the poster.

What's the point of the reply button 🤷‍♀️

Absolutely nothing. I had a thread in here months ago saying it was pointless and did nothing. It confuses people thinking they have actually replied to a specific post and we end up with threads full of OP posts that are written as responses to people bit with no context and the whole thread stops being useful.

Really annoys me they won't just get rid of it or make it actually work

You can still do it by clicking on the three dots but they should replace the reply button with a quote button.

Oh! That’s awful…

AliciaLime · 06/09/2023 07:29

Why’ve we gone backwards again?

Who knows. It’s worse now

So many options along the bottom and quote is the most used so should be easiest to get to

It used to be

Mrsjayy · 06/09/2023 07:32

I did the reply thing yesterday, thinking it would quote well it just looked like I was screaming into the void! It doesn't make sense. Thanks to this thread I know where the quote is.

EarringsandLipstick · 06/09/2023 07:36

I mostly use the app which has no quote function.

However occasionally I use the desktop site on my laptop (Chrome browser) & quote has always been under the three dots.

It's odd that different users saw different options on desktop sites.

I did the same

Fallenangelofthenorth · 06/09/2023 07:37

What's the thanks button for? I don't understand the purpose. Twitter, Facebook, Tattle, Reddit etc is visible to all. I can't think of a reason why it's of benefit to just the poster being thanked. Without an equal "downvote" button, or it being publjc, what's the reasoning behind it?

EasternStandard · 06/09/2023 07:39

Thanks is pointless

If I want to say good post or whatever I’ll just do that

Reallybadidea · 06/09/2023 07:43

Having both 'save' and 'bookmark' in the bottom bar seems superfluous

Mrsjayy · 06/09/2023 07:45

It just seems a lot of useless extras that isn't needed or wanted.

larkstar · 06/09/2023 07:46

On many other forums I'm on you have the great benefit of being able to edit the quote down to just the bit that you are wanting to respond to. The only alternative is to type that bit in yourself (or copy and paste) and to place an asterisk before and after the bit you are quoting to highlight it in bold.

CardamomGarden · 06/09/2023 07:54

LindorDoubleChoc · 05/09/2023 15:29

@DragonFly98 you can reply like this. If you type in @ and the first few letters of the poster name it will appear in a drop down which you can select from.

I prefer this to the endless, endless quoting!

Problem with this is it seems to wind a lot of people up. It doesn’t bother me - but then I’ve turned off the notifications - but I stopped doing it after seeing angry posts telling other posters not to @ them.

I think they are trying to avoid having the equivalent of a 'like' or 'dislike' button / thumbs-up etc.

It's been correctly pointed out that such features will massively increase pile-ons & support of targeting of OPs.

It seems the 'thanks' button, where your thanks is only visible to the poster, is a toe-dip into these waters, but a little pointless really.

And as ever, not on the app so app users can't avail of it, nor I assume, know if they've been thanked!
