The AIBU topic

@mnhq There’s been some really nasty bullying recently of people posting on AIBU. I don’t mean replies to people who are posting a deliberately goady AIBU looking for a bit of entertainment, but people posting in good faith about something personal. There’s been a couple recently where the OP was clearly upset and has been put off posting again.

People new to the site won’t necessarily know how this topic has a reputation for attracting people who are less than kind and empathetic, shall we say.

Some topics have an info box at the top that you see before you post, e.g. Relationships has one, health-related topics have them, warning that this isn’t the place to get qualified medical advice. Should there be one on AIBU warning that this topic can get rowdy, and suggesting that it isn’t the place for someone who’s feeling vulnerable to get advice on a distressing problem? The Relationships board would be more suitable for some of them.

Hi OP

Thanks for getting in touch about this.

It's certainly something we can discuss in the office. We also do deal with reports about this - we're always happy to go and post a friendly reminder on threads where this may be happening. So please do report your concerns to us.

We know AIBU can be robust (the topic asks for users to essentially choose a side they agree with) but talk guidelines must still be followed.

Thanks @LilyMumsnet . I don’t have any issue with robust debate, but some replies to AIBUs about personal issues definitely cross a line and don’t help anyone.
