But why cant you just post as normal regardless where you are from, everyone has same problems, dilemmas. I am from Ireland, not as many Irish on this site but I still post and reply to the normal every day life problems and situations.... Why do you want one just on Australia??

I guess because if they have Australia specific issues they want to discuss?
eg Schooling, Politics, Cricket, Whinging Poms or whatever?

This is a U.K and Ireland based forum. Why the need for an Australian/New Zealander section? Aren't there Australian sites for that? Are we going to have one for every nationality now? I wouldn't dream of asking for a British section on a Canadian message board.

Seriously????

I'm British and I support the idea of an Aussienet. I love reading Aussie threads and there's loads of them on here.

They can do both. I'm sure Craicnet and Scotsnet boards work like that, don't they?

More like giant spiders, drop bears, kangaroos down the main street of town, killer stingrays, and Vegemite.

Er… you do realise there’s a dedicated Irish board on here called Craicnet, yes?

TeenDivided · 25/04/2023 15:27

What are 'drop bears'? <genuinely interested, but not enough to google>

BananaBender · 25/04/2023 15:28

White Australia is based on the UK, so surely the mother country can let us have a tiny sliver of a UK based forum that we can call our own.

Killer koalas. They drop out of the gum trees. They love to eat tourists.

Australian section please?

But they're so cuddly .... Grin

CheckingOutandIn · 25/04/2023 15:35

It is a majority U,K and Ireland site. It's obvious when you look at it that it's based in the U.K. Just as Reddit is used by people from all over the world but it's still an American site. Therefore if I ask a question on Reddit unless it's a dedicated UK subreddit, if I'm asking for product advice I'll mention that I'm in the U.K.

Of course people from around the world are welcome to use it, it just seemed a little odd to want to set up a specifically Australian section in a U.K and Irish forum when there are Aussie sites to discuss things specific to Australia but if there aren't many good sites then that explains it, though for some reason I imagined that the Australian sites would be plentiful and well run.

There really aren't many forums like this in Australia and New Zealand. We do have some different concerns to UK mumsnetters. More sunblock and snakes than the NHS. Obviously lots of UK product recommendations aren't practical and we are in opposite seasons clotheswise - when you're discussing summer dresses we're talking winter merino. I can't see that it would take anything away from UK mumsnetters if there was a section for the former colonies - sort of think about it like the Commonwealth that the late Queen was so fond of promoting.

CheckingOutandIn · 25/04/2023 15:49

Well yes but it's a British and Irish site. If I visited a particular Canadian forum I might expect to see forums dedicated to the different provinces but I wouldn't really expect to see a dedicated U.K subforum even though there's a lot of British people there,

I just wondered what was so special about Australia that warranted a dedicated forum when we have so many nationalities and people from around the world posting, when the dedicated thread would have covered it, but it makes more sense if the main Aussie forums have shut down.

LaBaDeeLaBaDa · 25/04/2023 15:55

Bloody oath, yes

Also, if at the top of the board could be pinned the motto "we're not here to fuck spiders"?

Hello @BananaBender pleased to say we've set up a board now:
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/aussie-nz-mumsnetters

We've included the Kiwis - hope this doesn't cause a diplomatic incident with Trans-Tasman relations! 🇳🇿 🇦🇺

Please do use your new board - you can add it to topics you're following here, and keep up to date with new posts on your feed. And tell your friends!

Thanks so much for the suggestion.

This! There are often discussions on subjects that don't relate to us, and I've found that if we do contribute with a downunder view it is just ignored anyway. Australia/NZ are not mini UKs, we have our own specific issues and it would be great to be able to discuss them amongst ourselves.

Aslanplustwo · 25/04/2023 20:18

Oh hooray - just read that one has been set up. Thanks Mumsnet

BananaBender · 25/04/2023 21:50

Thank you Mumsnet! @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

I think including NZ is fine. We have just had ANZAC Day here after all.

Thank you @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet!

It will be great to get S&B advice - for example - that actually relates to stores and products available down our way.

I joined MN in 2008 when I was living in London and pregnant with DC1.

We returned (me) / moved (DH and DC x 2) to NZ in 2011, and I’ve been posting on MN ever since, because there isn’t anything even close to a forum like this in NZ.

I won’t be leaving MN any time soon.

I am really grateful for the new sub-forum, and would politely ask that those who so vociferously don’t see a need for it, to just ignore or hide it, in the same way you easily ignore the many other sub-fora on here that are not of relevance to you.

Thank you in advance to those of you who seemingly need to be asked this.
