Would it be a good idea to be able to 'tag' old threads when starting a new thread?

So when you start "Penguin Bollards thread 23' you can tag any of the individual threads in a series of threads and and all the contributors receive alerts etc. as if it was the original thread they'd contributed to.

Tag the first in a series of threads and all the people who've contributed to 'daughter threads' would be included in new alerts (unless they've unwatched etc.)

Maybe even an automatic link in a '1000 posts, thread closed' message to start a new automatically-named thread and add a link to the former thread as the 1001st post?

Although I suppose it's sometimes useful if discussions are encouraged allowed to die a natural death at 1000 posts.

Hi there @BrigitteBond. That's definitely an interesting idea. I must be honest, I'm not sure if it's something we've looked at before or if it's possible but I'll pass it on.

Is this something others would find useful too?

WhisperingAutistic · 06/03/2023 10:01

Sounds like a great idea!

BrigitteBond · 06/03/2023 13:12

On reflection I think it was just a stupid late-night idea of very little value.

Ha! No, we see what you mean, and will discuss it or something like it when we next meet to talk about plans for This Sort Of Thing. Thanks for thinking of ways to make the site better, it's much appreciated.

Posters on long running discussions with multiple threads have their own way of managing - usually by linking the new thread at the end of the old one, and vice versa.
It's a non-issue.
