Please be very careful when putting titles up about Christmas.

Ones about:

Father Christmas

Stockings

what to put in stockings

how long will they believe

These cause me SO many problems

because DS is 9 and can read and our computer is in the sitting room

they keep appearing on the TOP 50

please do not spoil his christmas morning

He still believes in the magic

Please think before writing the TITLE

I have changed my name because he knows kangasantamummy is me.

good point - taken!

That is lovely. My soon to be 7 yo announced the other day that he thought FC was me and his dad. I tried to keep the pretence up but once they suspect, your time is limited, I think. I suspect his older brother (aged 8) has been told the truth by some school friends too. It is sad, but inevitable, I suppose.

ahhhh! sweet!!

will do!

BRANdybutter · 03/12/2004 17:19

How did you manage that fairygodmother? I found out when I started pre-school when I was 3, I suspect that your DS may be doing what my brother did and pretending to believe so that 'Santa' keeps coming every year. My brother kept it up until he was in his early twenties .

Hulababy · 03/12/2004 17:23

Work collaegue's son is 10 and still believes. His dad is amazed and can't understand how, but it' the genune thing. No pretending. I think it's lovely.

I would be so so sad if DD stopped believing at just age 3

My 9 year old does as well. I think it is really sweet.

TinselTamum · 03/12/2004 18:47

My ds came back downstairs after they had hung up their stockings and put out mince-pies and stuff two years ago (he was 8) with tears in his eyes and said "I've just realised. It's the mummies and daddies who do all this, isn't it?".

I can't tell you how sad I felt for him

GRMUM · 03/12/2004 19:18

My 10 year old does too! Yesterday in the car I started a conversation about how Santa doesn't have much money this year( things are a bit tight for us at moment) fully expecting him to turn round and say that he knows its us. BUT he didn't just asked me where he shops, do the assistants see him etc etc. I'm sure he still believes but somehow don't think he will by Christmas (other kids at school)

fairygodmother · 03/12/2004 19:19

He really does believe.

We have a real chimney and have coal fire and we have to make sure it is gone out and cold before midnight

DS writes a letter and then father christmas replies but get everything covered in soot, leaving footprints and finger smudges all over the fireplace and rug.

The sack is left by the fireplace with his large cuddly reindeer and cuddly father christmas

We have to shut the cats out of sitting room otherwise they drink the milk that is for the reindeer.

Each year for last 2 -3 years we keep thinking this will be the last but he really does believe. He is so innocent in many ways.

Its lovely isn't it fairygodmother? I especially enjoy ds2 still believing because he's my youngest and therefore that will be it once he realises. He's also trying to read over my shouldernow......

Awww how lovely.

Will be extra careful.

Tommy · 05/12/2004 22:52

Have thought about this before actually - my DSs can't read yet but I can imagine it would be a problem!

TwasTheNightBeforeXmasOwl · 06/12/2004 04:33

ds is 7 and his granddad has told him santa doesnt exist. i was really angry actually, i thought that was a horrible thing to do. the idiot.

merrymarthamoo · 06/12/2004 07:27

Likewise, tamum - ds1 found out earlier this year and was utterly broken hearted Sad I wish he still believed - it's never "quite" the same, is it, once you know?

What does he think of the DISAPPOINTED WITH MY SEX LIFE NO. 56 thread? Grin

I have sat down with my just-2 year-old and explained the Father Christmas thing, after she kept saying she didn't want him in the house because of the beard (she's beard-phobic!). So I said don't worry, it's just a lovely story.

This morning when I was singing some Christmas tune she turned to me and said "It's just a story mummy! Some children believe it but not me!" and got back to wrapping presents.

Ah well we're planning a solstice bonfire party instead...
