The thread about the child receiving a dick pic has been deleted with this message

It did indeed have helpful information that would have been useful to refer back to

Have you now started monitoring threads and deleting those of a sensitive nature?

That's a slippery slope imo, why would posters take the time to post advive and insighta you're going to randomly decide to delete threada

Sending explicit images is a hugely important subject, why is it being brushed under the carpet?

The deletion policy seems totally arbitrary, it's very irritating.

Westfacing · 27/12/2022 15:52

I didn't see the thread.

It's not a subject that we should avoid discussing - a few years ago when my grandson aged around 13 started an Instagram account, I think it was Instagram, he straight away received a photo of a nude middle-aged woman.

I don't do Instagram so don't know how it works - needless to say his parents had to intervene and advise!

There are some pervs about who get their kicks by reading threads with that sort of content. Not something to be encouraged, so I'm with MNHQ on this one.

So no one should post about a worrying issue in case a pervert geta off on it?

That's nonsensical, I could imagine being in that same position and learned from others posts

Do you think we should be censored in discussions?

Whos in charge of deciding, there are fetishes about all kinds of subjects

Could end up in Daily Mail..

I dont get your point?

Did you see the thread, it's a subject that is regularly in the media

OP posts:
TheLittlestLightOnTheXmasTree · 27/12/2022 16:49

Yeah I did see it

Mumsnet and mumsnetters don't seem to like threads ending up elsewhere. I've seen threads deleted for it

OK but that's not what the deletion messages says so I dont understand the relevance.

Ive seen that when a thread has already been picked up by other media but not because itmight happen. Obviously though I haven't seen every deletion message

Exactly @Westfacing, for example I didn't know it was illegal to take a screenshot for evidence, I'm sure I can't be the only one

Hi there, if there is useful advice on a deleted thread, couldn't mumsnet turn it into a page in this site with useful advice/article? Maybe there's a way we could flag deleted posts for this purpose?

That's a good idea, in this particular case a guide on what to do that could be searched would be very useful and I'm sure there are other issuea where the same would apply

There was a journalist/pbp posting and today they deleted 23 threads even the innocent looking ones due to this

A piece in the daily mail from a journalist is rightly deleted preventing that. I suppose they are erring on the side of caution

This is just a forum, people crying over deleted threads is ridiculous

I don't know why you're linking this to the Daily Mail, it s got nothing to do with that. I didn't see any of the previous deleted threads but I saw the thread about and this is something totally different

You're right it is just a forum and I'd be amazed if this had reduced anyone to tears, where are you getting that from?

Different forums have different rules and it seems like here nowadays it's impossible to know what the rules are as they appear so random, nothing wrong with getting clarification

Evening all,
This thread was deleted because we had reports that were suspicious about the genuineness of the thread and also how appropriate some of the posts were. While we gave the poster the benefit of the doubt (and still do) we also understood some of the concerns made so we decided to take the thread down after a period of time to give the OP as we believed the OP had received useful information. Nonetheless, we have taken on board the feedback that there was useful advice other posters (incl. OP) could benefit from so we have reinstated the thread. It can be found here https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4706158-to-report-this-to-the-police
