How do I close my account and delete my comments/threads?

I nc'd recently, but had my previous name for some time, and the things I felt happy posting on here ten years or so ago are no longer things I want sitting out there on the internet. Can I request to have at least any threads I started deleted? Even though I've changed my display username for everything I've posted recently, they're still out there and I'm concerned they may be identifying in some way, and I'm not comfortable with that given that since then we've seen how often media outlets scrape the boards for content, or that people can easily dox someone...and I just don't want those things on the internet anymore, basically.

(Also, some of the ad banners really aren't accessibility friendly, just sayin' - flickering and moving things trigger migraines for some people!)

I have an ad blocker on my device, so never see adverts on MN.

As for the rest, it’s probably best to contact MNHQ.

Hi there @YouHaveAnArse ,

Best thing is to just drop us a line. Deregistering won't delete your posts and once you've deregistered your account it becomes very tricky to make deletions.

As a general rule, we don't do mass deletes of posts or threads unless there's a particular reason, but we'll always do all we can if you've concerns about being identified etc.

If you just hit the report button on your post above we can have a chat about it all and once you're sorted we can help you close your account if you still want to do that.

Hello, have done!

I have to say, other fora I've posted on on my years on the internet do allow users to remove their posts - seems a bit unusual that that's the case here, especially since the site has been around pre the age of GDPR, in the days when the internet felt a lot more anonymous. Will wait to hear from you.
