Users quoting one another

I'm finding it difficult to follow threads where people quote one another constantly. So, two posters start bickering and quoting one another and then messages contain 5/10/20 embedded messages. Makes threads unreadable.

I Agree. But all that will happen now is people will quote quotes for as long as they can on this thread.

BobLep0nge · 29/05/2022 02:51

I agree, posters should quote the old way.

BoDerek · 29/05/2022 02:53

Disagree. It happens. A discussion starts, people join in, smaller conversations open up within that and so it is. Nothing unusual or complicated about it. The having to copy, paste, bold etc was a terrific bore.

Like this? I agree. I'd also like to see a return of putting a child's age in brackets if it's relevant. Not just after the abbreviations.

DC4 - my fourth child.
DC(4) - A 4 year old child.

I'm aware it happens, that's why I started this thread.

The endless regurgitation of the same text in embedded quotes is just tedious to me.

Was it italics? I could've sworn it was bold Blush

IstayedForTheFeminism · 29/05/2022 03:07

When I was first here the name of the person you were quoting was in bold. The quote was in italics.

At least I'm fairly certain it was that was round.
It possibly changed when the @ feature came in.

That’s a pity for you. I actively like it. Much more user friendly.

InattentiveADHD · 29/05/2022 03:19

I like it. Makes threads sooooo much easier to follow. You straight away know exactly what post they are responding to. And it's so much easier to quote yourself rather than the very awkward copy pasting and making bold.

Exactly this. And you can just skip past the ones engaged in offside arguments.

Me too

Good for you.

The quoting function is fine in itself. But as per my initial message I find it dull when a spat ensues, quoting ensues, and then with each new message between them the entire conversation is repeated. Until the page is just a wall of repeated posts.

And so forth?

If so.....

FlowerArranger · 29/05/2022 04:26

I agree...😨

RevoltingHumanHead · 19/06/2022 02:20

people quoting quotes of people who've quoted quotes are just a visual irritant. I mentally skip over them.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 19/06/2022 11:15

There should be an option to just quote the last message.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 19/06/2022 11:20

Also, it should be easier to tag someone. If you are quoting them, then the @ and bold should automatically happen.

Even if you aren't quoting them, there should be an option under their post to tag them automatically.

The old way isn't as accessible to all though

I agree. Usually you can take a reasonable guess, but there are times when it would be helpful to have this much clearer.

DD4 point blank refuses to go to the shop for me, for example ...

PurpleButterflyWings · 19/06/2022 22:40

@SabrePrattler Agree 100%. When I see this quote within a quote within a quote etc etc and so on and so on, I can't be fucked to read any of the posts on the 15 post post!!! Including the last one the last poster has put..

I don't know (or care) who has said what, because so many posts and usernames have been quoted. As you say it makes the post (and the thread sometimes) unbearable to read. I just skip past the nested responses, and have bailed on a few threads that have too many.
