Can we have a topic for posters to post about whatever the panic worthy topic of the week is please?

Don’t know what you’d call it, but it seems every other week there’s something which posters are irrationally panicked about.

Last month it was that we were heading for nuclear war. This week it’s monkeypox, I have no doubt that it’s going to be something else by next week.

Thing is, it’s not practical to create or even request a new topic for every situation which seems to cause panic, so maybe one paranoia topic could cover it all?

'One paranoia topic could cover it all'

Do you mean for this to come across as patronising?

The broad umbrella for these topics is news. That's where they should be, with fear mongering threads deleted.

Who is going to post something about a topic of which they are genuinely worried about, and think 'oh I know, why don't I post this in the 'paranoia' category?!' 😐

The problem is that certain posters can’t cope with the thought that their thread might not get enough replies to satisfy their craving for attention so they frame it as an AIBU. ‘AIBU to be TERRIFIED SHAKING AND CRYING about monkey pox/war/etc’ And then everyone else starts doing it too.

Hi @AlternativePerspective thanks for posting. There have definitely been trolls who post just to cause alarm - and when we spot them, they are swiftly booted out. But the majority of users who post about things that are causing them alarm are genuine and on MN to seek reassurance. The Monkeypox example is a good one - lots of posters were able to explain why this disease isn't like Covid.

Do remember that if you don't want to see a thread, you have the option to hide it - the link is at the top of the thread.

We don't think a Panic Corner would work, tbh - other than to increase anxiety by having all the panic threads in one place! But thanks for the suggestion all the same.

Thanks MNHQ for reminding the OP that she isn't thread monitor and she doesn't need to patronise or belittle posters who want to discuss their concerns on an anonymous forum. I have no idea why she feels the need to post on threads that she obviously thinks below her.
