I've just been changing my topic options and noticed the text under the various options for MN classic etc.

"Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Sed suscipit, nulla non feugiat gravida, velit felis luctus nisl, sit amet molestie diam sapien et ante."

All you latin lovers out there....what does this say?

This is standard filler text. It's not really Latin, I don't think. See here.

NotQuiteCockney · 13/12/2007 22:11

Oh, no, I lie, it is Latin. Part of Cicero.

TheYoungVisiter · 13/12/2007 22:22

I don't really know much latin but they've changed it to something about pregnancy - that's what gravida means. I think it's something about conception, childbirth and knowledge but hopefully someone classical will come along (or tech will fess up)

TheYoungVisiter · 13/12/2007 22:27

I should (in all honesty) change that to "I don't really know ANY Latin"

susiecutiemincepies · 13/12/2007 22:29

puts my memeory of latin very much to shame, but. I do know gravida!!!

TecheneezerScrooge · 13/12/2007 22:48

"cerberus est canis" was always about the limit of my latin, so I ain't got a scooby I'm afraid.

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 14/12/2007 16:51

bumping for latin scholars!

Hmmm. Something about love. He suspects there were not first, but bravely something love tok over man first....

Off to get latin dictionary.......

southeastastra · 14/12/2007 16:59

mm i was wondering too!

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 14/12/2007 16:59

LOL - I just put the whole thing into an online translator and it came up with this:

"Lorem itself pain he is amet consectetuer to come up to elit. But to raise up nulla not feugiat pregnant , skirmish lucky lamentation nisl , he is amet annoyance diam wise and before"

Clear as mud!

claricebeansmumhasnomincepies · 14/12/2007 17:01

I wouldn't be trusting your online translator

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 14/12/2007 17:03

i couldn't find an online translator...

OP posts:
AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 14/12/2007 17:15

I just put "latin translator" into google ... but look where that got me

Kathyate6mincepies · 14/12/2007 17:21

It's at the top of NQC's link:
'"Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit..."
"There is no one who loves pain itself, who seeks after it and wants to have it, simply because it is pain..."

Point is, it starts halfway through a word, and gets bits wrong, so it doesn't make sense even if you know Latin

edam · 14/12/2007 17:25

It's just filler text that designers use when they are laying out pages, before they have real copy to flow in.

TheYoungVisiter · 14/12/2007 19:51

The text in NQC's webpage isn't the same as the mumsnet text.

PortAndLemonaid · 14/12/2007 19:58

More than you ever wanted to know about "lorem ipsum"

TecheneezerScrooge · 15/12/2007 15:51

I always get ours at lipsum.com/ which also has some explanations.....
