can we have a facility where the original poster can decide to end a thread?

or is that not possible? or against mn policy?

also, can threads be deleted a bit earlier than the current thirty thousand years? i know chat ones are, but was hoping that the others could also be. perhaps all threads not posted on for five years could be deleted to help keep anonymity from our children as they grow old enough to be mn memebers themselves?

I've found a lot of old threads really useful - specifically the SEN ones. A quick bit of historical research has given me information I've wanted, or confirmed opinions, without starting a thread of my own.
And had I done that with Style, I wouldn't have been the three thousandth person to start a thread about stylish coats with a hood .

HI, IQ - I think these threads tend to run their course, so rarely flare up later on... and if they do everyone seems to jump on the person responsible for resurrecting the row! (And that do cause unnecessary grief get nuked by us here.)

Hello, how do i get in touch with mnhq - i don't have email set up on this computer - just a hotmail account, so when i click on contact us it tells me i can't.

I think this is a really bad idea for all the reasons stated above. plus...

do people really think that their children are going to trawl through deckades of threads just to find the ones posted by their parents when they were members here? seriously?

my answer to that would be

a: don't give your children your mn username, and

b: don't post things online you're not prepared for your family/friends/children to read.

Boco - just click on the red exclamation mark to the right of your post, then just send us a message that way.

i wish you could stop threads you had started and delete them
hindsight is a great thing!

Desiderata · 10/12/2007 11:59

Oh, no, no, no.

I quite like the idea that for thirty thousand years, I'll be on record for being a complete arsehole

Kathyate6mincepies · 10/12/2007 12:25

'The postings of Desiderata on Mumsnet: visionary or arsehole?'

Desiderata · 10/12/2007 12:29

Ha ha ha! I guess we'll never know
