Why would someone troll about this? I find it staggering that a person would go to so much trouble to make it all up. For what gain 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
happy97 · 30/01/2021 10:41

It seemed so emotive, and the way 'she' spoke about the support groups.

But with hindsight it would have been all over the news, much like the incident in Annecy.

@IrenetheQuaint

This would have been all over the UK papers if it had actually happened.

It wouldn't have been though, the OP had said it was not U.K.

mynameiscalypso · 30/01/2021 10:42

I'm pretty sure that if a British man and two teenagers had been shot on holiday because they were mistaken for being part of a gang then it would have been big news here...

PurplePansy05 · 30/01/2021 10:43

I really don't know what I was thinking, maybe that she needed space to open up a bit after she's bottled it up. Particularly baby loss is something MN is actually very helpful with, it's usually a safe space (from experience).

Thank you, OP for the flowers and for opening my eyes, I've obviously been too caring for what turned out to be a twisted attention-seeker 💐 Never again.

smoothchange · 30/01/2021 10:44

I think that was o my reported widely in the U.K. because it involved British Citezens

smoothchange · 30/01/2021 10:44

Oh wait. My mistake. When I read the thread it wasn't clear anyone involved was British Blush

mynameiscalypso · 30/01/2021 10:45

But they were Brits according to the troll weren't they? Just on holiday 'somewhere' in Europe.
CandyLeBonBon · 30/01/2021 10:45

It was all v dramatically written. The tone was 'off' and 'she' was clearly lapping up the attention. Trolls are rife on here

PurplePansy05 · 30/01/2021 10:45

I thought she was British but it wasn't clear about anyone else.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 30/01/2021 10:45

Even if it hadn’t been suspect from the start, the minute they said there were reasons why it wasn’t reported much in the press was a dead giveaway. A British family being shot dead, in a European city, in a case of mistaken identity, drive by, gang related murder would have been all over our press.
Anything that starts out overly dramatic, I tend to give a steer, simply because I don’t believe the vast majority of people’s first thoughts are, I know I’ll post this on Mumsnet, hence a high number are likely to be trolling.

tocketytickety · 30/01/2021 10:46

So glad that thread was deleted. Don't know if it was true or not so didn't report it but the title and the opening post left a really awful taste in my mouth - just couldn't believe someone would want to do an AMA on such an incident, true or not. I hid the thread.

ParkheadParadise · 30/01/2021 10:46

I believe there was also socks on that thread keeping it going.

Onedropbeat · 30/01/2021 10:47

Wow, I thought it was unusually bad luck but the ought why would someone lie so believed it

Ffs

What a dickhead she is

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 30/01/2021 10:47

@Herja

Depressinly Pansy, a huge number of trolls include still birth or the death of a young child. It's disgusting and I don't know what causes behaviour like this.

Regretably to the point that it's actually an indicator of a troll thread quite often.

That’s my usual thought, sad because some are genuinely people needing support. I also avoid any about a spouse dying after that one years back where the troll guy took in a lot of posters about his wife’s death.
smoothchange · 30/01/2021 10:48

My mistake

SmidgenofaPigeon · 30/01/2021 10:48

Honestly there’s so many people on here that will just lap up any old shit. Why on earth would you think it WAS real?

Wenolikeexplodeythings · 30/01/2021 10:49

It was so obvisouly nonsense. I didnt bother commenting and I cant believe all the people who did could be so naive.

However, if the troll is still floating around they will be very much enjoying that their little fantasy has spawned another thread of people talking about them, so hopefully mumsnet will take this down.

PurplePansy05 · 30/01/2021 10:50

Well it is true that it's odd that someone would start such an AMA but with the best intentions (aka me being naive!) I genuinely thought she needed to talk and this was her asking for some help and a listening ear. After all it's unimaginable and there really are people who have survived things like this. I don't know any and I don't know how they've coped. I would never ask her about the gory details and bever did. Most of the thread was entirely focused on the support and emotional side of things and on her DD.

rattymcratrat · 30/01/2021 10:51

I didn't see this thread- but this happened, in the uk, and wasn't national news- sounds like a similar story??

PurplePansy05 · 30/01/2021 10:52

Well if someone brings a topic close to your heart, your first reaction is to reach out and help...mine was, as explained earlier. No need to be harsh.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 30/01/2021 10:54

Well that’s a nice way to think @PurplePansy05 but this is a vast anonymous Internet forum- it’s much safer not to invest and assume that are a lot of things will be made up bollocks. The tone was really off with this one.

That's an awful story, but unfortunately family murders like this get less coverage than people being killed by total strangers.

RJnomore1 · 30/01/2021 11:01

It’s true that baby death is a massive troll area. Not just on MN too. I think one of the first big internet troll scandals was to do with it.

It’s bloody tragic for everyone genuine facing the issue being trolled about 💐please remember to take care of yourself online, there are lots of genuine people but there’s some sick fucks out there as well

tocketytickety · 30/01/2021 11:03

I think if it was in the bereavement section or even AIBU ("for traffic") but the AMA was just off and a bit jarring to me. She could have still gotten questions on another board and answered them and it would have been more subtle. The AMA felt like she wanted to tell a story more so than looking for support.

As I know some people do go through similar things, I couldn't say if it was fake or not but something about the whole AMA felt a little crass. I just hid it rather than report it since I didn't know.

marbellamarc · 30/01/2021 11:04

@rattymcratrat the lack of news wasn't a red flag to me as often murders get little press
