Hi all, we're doing some testing on the Mumsnet site and we're looking for volunteers to help us to make sure everything makes sense, is user friendly, and works ok.

If you're interested, here's some more info...

If you’d like to take part in a remote research session about the Mumsnet site on Friday 4th October or Monday 7th October, then please do sign up below.

Sign up here

You can take part in this session from home. It won’t take longer than an hour and there are various time slots available in the sign up form.

For the session, you’ll need to use a laptop with a reliable wifi connection. You’ll be invited to join a call via your laptop, with a member of MNHQ and will be asked to look at a prototype and provide feedback.

Thanks!

And back to the other thread - will there be an incentive for people giving up their time to do this? Hmm

BIWI · 03/10/2019 21:24

You know, when you're doing market research (which is what you're doing, just in case you don't know), you do have to treat your participants with respect. This means acknowledging the time that people are giving up for you, as well as the contribution that they're making to the development of your product. I'm guessing that none of you are members of the Market Research Society, but you do need to know that there are professional obligations about how research is conducted, and how you treat members of the public.

Rubicon80 · 03/10/2019 21:24

An hour of testing, for nothing? Agree with @BIWI

BIWI · 03/10/2019 21:25

... and it's this kind of practice that gives market research a bad name. For all those of us working in market research, abiding by the Code of Conduct, this is incredibly frustrating.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 04/10/2019 13:17

Well yes. We ran a similar project getting feedback on our work website. All participants got travel expenses (if coming in) and vouchers as a thank you.

BIWI · 04/10/2019 18:14

Hmm. Strangely silent @RebeccaSMumsnet Hmm

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 04/10/2019 18:17

I mean I would be up for it, but fair is fair I want some kind of remuneration for my time.

JoyceDivision · 04/10/2019 18:19

Yep if it's with appropriate incentive for time given up

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/10/2019 18:40

will there be an incentive for people giving up their time to do this?

This^ It's really shitty expecting people do do stuff for free, and makes it harder for people who do this professionally.

It really pisses me off the way big companies expect freebies because of "exposure" or whatever and it just makes it harder for everyone to make a living.

I expected better from Mumsnet.

TheSmallAssassin · 06/10/2019 18:48

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine - you can't do "acting like a real user and giving feedback" professionally Hmm

I agree though that you ought to be paying people for their time with vouchers or something, even the government (as in GDS) pays people when they take part in user research.

We've been doing a lot of user research on my work website recently and it's involved requesting volunteers (with incentive, obviously) and then having a UX (user experience) agency to do sessions with them and then provide us with an overall report at the end.

I assume that's what ItsAll means.

BIWI · 06/10/2019 19:11

She means people who work professionally in market research!

RebeccaCloud9 · 06/10/2019 21:13

An hour, including facial video recording, for nothing??!! Nope!
