RTFT!

There are at least 2 threads in Active at the moment where the OP is getting harsh, rude and unnecessary comments from posters who have not RTFT.

It is bad enough with posters who can’t be arsed to note that a thread is days old but think they can barge in at the end without reading anything, add some original wisdom and thereby bump a long ‘cancelled cheque ‘ thread back into active convos. But fragile , upset posters being hounded by these ignorant clowns?

Could MNHQ put it in the MN guidelines / etiquette?

Are OP posts highlighted by default?

Could threads be removed from Discussion of the Day once resolved?

It is making MN a frustrating read, sometimes.

Hi OP. Thanks for raising this. We agree it's really frustrating when folk wander onto a thread and post without reading it first!

We find that these sorts of posts come under the 'not in the spirit' umbrella and are deleted accordingly.

If there are any posts which you feel break Talk Guidelines, please do report them directly to us and we'll be happy to take a look.

We'll raise your other points here at MNHQ.

Thanks again.

Thanks MNHQ. It sounds as if you will accept a lower threadhold of posts by people who have not RTFT?
Because sometimes they are posts that would be OK-ish if posted early you, but definitely not after am update or further context has been posted.

Sometimes upset or vulnerable or abused posters do not actually have immediate perspective on what to include in their OP. It isn’t a case of careless drip feeding.

Could you publicise this policy / guideline?

Thanks for replying.

Just to clarify, HotpotLawyer - what we mean is that if someone posts insensitively on a thread, having clearly not read the entire thing - and that post is then reported to us, we may well judge it to be 'not in the spirit' and therefore breaking Talk Guidelines. Posts in that vein would be deleted.

That said, we do feel though that most MNers post in good faith, taking care to read threads before posting.

As ever, if you spot any posts that you feel are breaking TGs, report them to us and we'll be happy to take a look.

OK!

It would be really good if OP’s posts could be highlighted by default. It seems like a lot of people don’t know about that setting and so don’t bother trying to check a long thread for updates.

FlissMumsnet · 30/03/2019 20:08

Hi 53rdWay, we'll definitely raise this (can't make any promises) as we do know it's something many users would find helpful.

I agree. There is one about sexual abuse in active and throughout the day the OP (later revealed to be the abuse victim) has had disgusting comments from posters who haven’t RTFT.

In the past I was attacked verbally by a poster who hadn’t RTFT and posted a very insensitive comment about abortion. I advised her to check the OPs update and was hit with a tirade of abuse.

What about a message at the top, something to the tune of, ‘the original query/dilemma posted about in this thread has now been resolved’ with a link to the update - much like the ‘MNHQ have commented on this thread’ message, which I always click on first if I see it.

Posters could flag a thread if it’s all becoming a bit ‘cancel the cheque’ and message could be added?

I often don’t log in, and if you’re not logged in I don’t think you can get the op’s posts highlighted. Agree that would also be a helpful default.
