Can you do something about threads being copied over to netmums?

It's not right that my entire OP has been copied and pretended to be posted over there.

Cant MN do some kind of bulk take down and actions to stop this happening? It's not fair on posters

Hi there OP,

Thanks for getting in touch.

There's not really anything we can do about this, as of course we can only control what's on Mumsnet. Mumsnet has grown and grown and with that means more and more readers, some of which may not always have the best intentions. Whilst we do our best to stop troll posting on our boards, there's little we can do to stop people reading threads on Mumsnet and posting them to troll Netmums. We think it'd be a good idea to contact Netmums, we're sure they'd be happy to look into it.

Sorry we can't be of more help OP, but let us know if you have any questions.

Report to admins on netmums. Every time.

RebootYourEngine · 26/03/2019 10:14

How about MNHQ talk to Netmums and both come up with a way to stop this?

quittinaeete · 26/03/2019 13:18

But I think it's netmums themselves doing this en mass. Everytime they see a popular topic it's copied over with what looks like a spam account.

Rather than users I think there should be some system to resolve this, it's not really looking out for posters here. Someone could accidentally give some identifying information and it's copied over without them knowing!

Lol, stuff you put in the public domain is in the public domain.

If you don’t want it copied and pasted, don’t post it. Certainly isn’t MNHQs problem.

quittinaeete · 26/03/2019 13:43

No it is MN problem if their main competitor is copying and pasting content and passing it off as genuine posts.

And what evidence do you have that the employees of netmums are doing this? Other than the fact those posts exist and they are the same as posts on here?

And in the unlikely event you are right, what do you propose MNHQ do about it? A balaclava clad Justine leads a dawn raid on their servers and smashes them up?

No law has been broken here. If it had been mumsnet would be going after the daily mail for printing posts verbatim.

This is copyright law, and it’s not being breached. You post something on here and anyone can copy it anywhere.

This isn't strictly a MN vs NM issue. Anything on this site can and has been copied to a number of platforms, including the likes of Twitter/Reddit/Facebook etc. As such, it's only prudent to always post with the awareness that once something is out there, it's out there. I understand that that's not always possible, of course. Unfortunately though, once something is on the internet, there's only so much you/MNHQ can do.

Acis · 28/03/2019 01:41

It just needs to be reported to NM every time it happens. It may encourage them to beef up their rules and, if it's site users doing it, they can ban them. Perhaps they could also pass the details on to MN so they can ban them also.

Monty27 · 28/03/2019 02:23

OP the daily mail copies posts too.
If you post something on a public forum you don't own the words. Unless you have copyrighted it.
If you don't want it copied don't post it.

Do you go on netmums much?
