Don't think a lot of people on MN are very welcoming to posters who've joined recently.................

do posters who've been here a few years think they are more "important" than newer posters?

no one who posts here owns the site, but reading some posts I feel certain oldies think they have a share in MN or something

you haven't ladies!!!

each post is as valid as the next and new poeple joining should be made welcome, unless they post something which goes against the MN rules

why should people be welcoming to someone who starts off by calling us "selfish, thoughtless bastards" and who explicitly states they have joined MN to tell us this?

lulumama · 05/07/2007 19:59

netiquette is not confined to musment, it is all over the net, and every forum

there are basic rules

same as going to a new mums and tots group...you wouldn;t rush over to the nearest group, interrupt, change the subject, tell everyone else they were wrong, and you are right....

that is just manners, no?

TranquilaManana · 05/07/2007 20:04

ah, so thats where im going wrong...

southeastastra · 05/07/2007 20:06

i'm welcoming. Welcome !

calordan · 05/07/2007 20:08

this isnt confined to the shrek/madeline thing i have kept away from that as much as poss, its all through MN, I know its not nice to hear negative stuff but it does seem a bit like gang warfare against newbies, completely agree each OP is as valid as the last, and as for the toddler roup analogy, its seemed a bit cliquy at this one recently

filthymindedFlanders · 05/07/2007 20:08

As Rubyslippers has said: I don't yet feel like handing round the fairycakes to a bunch of loons who barged in expressly to call us selfish bastards...
Call me a selfish bastard, but I'd rather keep me buns for the real Mumsnetters

filthymindedFlanders · 05/07/2007 20:09

(however, if you ask nicely and remember to wipe your feet, I may thaw)

lulumama · 05/07/2007 20:13

if you think it is cliquey, start your own clique ! i did!!!

expatinscotland · 05/07/2007 20:16

I second gess's post.

It's a site.

There are millions of them.

If one doesn't suit, look around for another or start one yourself.

calordan · 05/07/2007 20:16

good point LM

RubberDuck · 05/07/2007 20:31

coughs at expat

Boco · 05/07/2007 20:37

I think that if as a newbie your first post says 'right you selfish bastards you should all be ashamed!!' (which about 3 newbies have leapt in with recently) - they they can't really expect a warm welcome.

I only found this site a few months ago and as a newbie found hundreds of very welcoming and very funny and interesting people, and i'd say about 2 vaguely unfriendly ones.

OrmIrian · 05/07/2007 20:39

Well exactly boco.

I don't think we'd use that approach when trying new M&T group for the first time would we? (Not that I've ever done that but I'm guessing)

tissy · 05/07/2007 20:43

when you-know-who (briefly) got off the subject of ou-know-what we were quite nice to her

but she's till at it!

is this just a big toddler group, cos I have had ten years of those and I have had my fill of them, not a newbie btw

absolutely not, freedom of speech.

Would get a bit staid without them

edam · 05/07/2007 21:25

You may have the ability to say whatever you want to say, but it doesn't mean you will necessarily be popular or deserving of respect. (That's a generic you, not anyone in particular. 'One' is just too poncey.)

DrNortherner · 05/07/2007 21:26

We were all newbies once Malory.

macdoodle · 05/07/2007 21:44

Sorry but I agree with OP's sentiment

gess · 05/07/2007 21:52

I don't even know who the newbies are. I thought Boco had been here years Everyone changes their name so often anyway.

Repeat 'not worth worrying about'.

toomuchtodo · 06/07/2007 20:46

gess, again I repeat, I'm not worried!

I think I found the thread where a poster (not a Woolies one!) was "discussing" Madelaine McCann still being missing, I guess the thread I read was in response to the op in this other thread..............

agree new posters not generally made to feel unwelcome, but this thread was very imflammatory, so my op was a bit misguided

do posters who've been here a few years think they are more "important" than newer posters? too farkin right

you haven't ladies!!! says who ?

each post is as valid as the next (NOT) and new poeple joining should be made welcome (HA!), unless they post something which goes against the MN rules or bore us to tears

toomuchtodo · 06/07/2007 21:33
