Multiple threads, no longer OK?

Reason for deletion:

"Message from MNHQ: This is the second thread from the OP on this subject and we think one is more than enough..."

Also, since when does MNHQ decide that the number of threads on a subject is 'more than enough' ?

I hadn't seen another, and was happy to post in the one that was active, as were others

But if MNHQ is going to say 'one thread per thing' please can it be applied to everything because I don't think certain subjects/posters should get special treatment

What was the subject?

StopTheHistrionics · 18/11/2018 08:03

It makes sense. It really annoys me when people start a second thread because they didn't like the responses they were getting.

Or those posters who post repeatedly about the same issue e.g the office crush poster. Also annoying.

Xiaoxiong · 18/11/2018 08:12

Multiple threads from the same OP on the same subject is no good though, deleting all but one seems like a reasonable thing to do...

Xiaoxiong · 18/11/2018 08:14

(It is annoying if you post on the secondary thread that gets deleted though!)

Penisbeakerismyfavethread · 18/11/2018 08:16

But then where is the line drawn. I post about my reoccurring issues so might start a thread about my fertility 3 months after the last one ended. Or about how my mil kicks off every birthday? I need the mumsnet guidance. Just because I had help last year doesn’t stop me needing it again

meditrina · 18/11/2018 08:30

It shouldn't matter what the subject is.

And deletion messages used to specify if it's just admin egdeletion of a duplicate, and sometimes include link to the remaining thread. Not say there was quite enough of that (which reads as an editorial value judgement, whether intended or not)

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 18/11/2018 08:36

Of course it matters what the subject is.

CosmicCanary · 18/11/2018 08:41

Why would it be a good thing to have 2 threads by the same OP about the same thing?
Its a duplicate.

Multiple threads by different OPs about the same subject are diffetent to what you are describing.

MaisyPops · 18/11/2018 08:42

Doesn't it matter what the subject is and the time frame?
E.g. MIL issues a few weeks apart, probably fine. Fertility issues over time, probably fine.
AIBU? Followed by AIBU a few hours later on the same topic due to not liking the answer, probably unreasonable and worth a delete
Same thread on controversial topics an hour apart, probably more goady than seeking debate.

Sparklingbrook · 18/11/2018 08:48

If the original thread was one they were having to keep an eye on and make deletions all the time you can see their point.

Or if it was a bunfight, the original thread reached 1000 and someone started a new thread ready to continue the bunfight?

Runnynosehunny · 18/11/2018 09:00

I'm sure they are talking about when someone posts about the same issue very close together, not if someone posts about their recurring issue. I would say if you are posting about a recurring issue you could put this in your posts e.g I posted about my issue two weeks ago but still having problems. What I mean is you shouldn't necessarily need to go back and update your initial thread if you want to keep things current, but don't act like you never posted before on the subject or it seems like you are being secretive for some reason and sets posters off on an advanced search detective mission.

TansyViolet · 18/11/2018 09:45

This deletion message was put on a Brexit thread. I found it annoying as i posted a reply to someone and then never got to see their response.
