why not make up a list of suitable presents ofr each sex for different ages?

was reading " dear zoo" to ds3 tonight and thought to myself " i must rememebr this is a good present ofr 1 year olds int he future"

then I thought if we did a top ten for each age it would be really handy and may be hanndy fro new paretns of grandparesnt to refer to

Excellent idea, I would use it. We could even have an SN section!

Glitter and Markers were both considered dangerous weapons in my home.

edam · 27/08/2004 20:37

Good idea but I HATE Dear Zoo - what sort of message is it, that you can send animals back if you don't like them?

MeanBean · 27/08/2004 20:38

My kids love "Kiss good night Sam" and it sends a very clear message that it's time to go to sleep!

notthecod · 28/08/2004 07:53

what does the team think?

yes we could vote on the best toys continuously using the new poll/voting software I am campaigning for on the site

jampot · 31/08/2004 11:17

I love the story The Little Boat

Stripymouse · 31/08/2004 11:32

Great idea for a thread.
My DD1 really loves The Loudest Roar by Thomas Taylor. Colourful pictures, good fun, good for girls and boys from age of about 2yrs.
I love The Mousehole Cat -most wonderful imagery and language with a really heart warming tale. DD not yet into it as it is a bit long fr a 3yr old, probably best for 4 yrs but should be on every bookshelf IMO :)

Beccarollover · 31/08/2004 11:34

This is relevant for me at the moment

DS turning 1 next week and have no idea!

Sari · 31/08/2004 11:52

jampot - I love The Little Boat too but ds1 has gone off it so I don't get to read it anymore. To be honest, I suspect I was always reading it more for me than him. Still, won't be long before I can try it out on ds2.

We've just got a great pair of rings you hang from the ceiling and both ds1 (4) and ds2 (2) love them. They spend ages swinging about on them and then swing their toys on them. Got them from Ikea for under a tenner.

codswallop · 31/08/2004 13:40

so what I thought was is where we have like "top 5 trikes" we should have a "top 5 presnts for..." - and then different categories.

could even go in a book!

zubb · 31/08/2004 13:56

Good idea - there is already a top 5 books for each age group, so maybe this should be for non-book presents.

codswallop · 31/08/2004 13:56

justine?

Carrie (mumsnet) · 31/08/2004 17:52

Hi guys

Thanks for the suggestions. We already have though a find the best toys - done by age group and a find the best books - again by age group and feel that to do this again on Talk might be duplicating a bit? It would be great if everyone sent in a new review for Toys and books though (left hand column on home page for anyone who doesn't know)

In the early days we had thought about sending out a gift list with the developmental emails and we may yet come back to that when time allows.

Hope this is what you were meaning?

beety, are you trying to snatch coddy's Worst Typist on Mumsnet crown?

(loved your post on the single yellow line thread - "i thought you could park on a sigle yelloline sundays/bank holidays and after 6 (or 8 if you are camden)" - have been chuckling all day about that one! How many of us are camden I wonder?)

Fio2 · 31/08/2004 19:30

lol jan

Carrie (mumsnet) · 02/09/2004 16:09

I think I know what you mean Beetroot but as we're updating all the reviews in the very near futuren, it would be much easier from our end if we could encourage folks to send their recommendations there (even if it measn duplicating something they've already written on Talk) rather than us have to go through Talk and try and collate all the threads on what to buy which age group. Then the next time somene asks the question we can just point them to our super updated reviews of toys and books - would this not work?
