Thread derailing

Hi MNHQ,

Is there a policy about people who derail threads or is it just accepted that it happens sometimes?

A few threads I have been on recently have been derailed (v. annoying) but I am unsure if the posts should be reported or if it is just a fact of being on a large forum and to put up with it Halloween Grin

Thanks

It's just one of the joys of MN. You'll never be able to stop it - and nor should you!

OliviaStabler · 03/11/2018 09:17

Maybe not. I guess I was just being grumpy Grin I was really enjoying the threads then they got derailed by mood hoovers.

Hi,
We've enjoyed your use of "mood hoovers" OliviaStabler

BIWI is spot on; we doubt we'll ever be able to entirely stamp derailing out - best thing to do is report it to us and we'll jump onto the thread and take a look.

OliviaStabler · 04/11/2018 10:14

@FlissMumsnet Thanks. I heard that phrase a few years ago and it does describe some people quite well Grin

Thanks for answering. I thought that would be the case but no harm in asking.

I used to use a forum where mods jumped heavily on thread derailing. It totally killed the conversations dead and felt very restrictive.

OliviaStabler · 04/11/2018 12:00

The threads I was referring to were completely derailed and I think on purpose. People not reporting something that had upset them but publically protesting by posting the same stuff time and again thereby stopping the rest of us from enjoying the thread.

What types of issues were being discussed on these threads OP?

OliviaStabler · 04/11/2018 22:19

I don't want to create a TAAT so won't be specific but in both cases it was someone blowing out of all proportion a word or situation.
