MNHQ - do you think it's cool to have pro life ads

Like this one (ignore the section of washing machine thread).

It's an insidious site when you click on it - supposedly helpful pregnancy info and then telling you that abortion will lead to mental health problems.

Do you really want to promote this, MMHQ?

Yes - it is certainly a Pro-Life site, although this is not obvious from its home page. On the 'Our Approach' page I link to above, it says:

our approach is different from other pro-life sites. We are the only pro-life website that “reaches across the aisle” to young men and women who are not pro-life and would never think about going or want to go to a pro-life website.

By masquerading as an impartial advice site, apparently.

I don't know if MN has a policy on not accepting advertising from Pro-Life companies; I'm not sure it should provided the advertising is clear that that is what it is, but this advertising is definitely not clear.

HonestReally · 07/09/2018 21:14

That's so inappropriate. I know it's not Mumsnet themselves hosting the ad but you would have thought that would have been on the not suitable list.

HonestReally · 07/09/2018 21:17

This is why I use an adblocker 👀

keefthebeef · 07/09/2018 21:18

WTF MN?

flossietoot · 07/09/2018 21:20

I don’t have an issue with it. I personally am pro choice but don’t feel that I have the right to impose that view on others- many people are pro life- they are allowed to share their opinions too.

RollonSeptember2018 · 07/09/2018 21:25

Very shocked mumsnet would let a company like this be on their site, very un feminist, seems more religious and pushy.

SoupDragon · 07/09/2018 21:26

I think they’ve removed them before as being unsuitable. IIRC, sometimes unsuitable ads slip through on the Ad Choices thing.

margaurette · 07/09/2018 21:29

Thank god it's not just me.

Flossie it's not particularly the pro life stance that bothers me, it's the fact that it claims to be neutral but then gives very inaccurate information.

Anyone actually looking for information about pregnancy would be horribly mislead. It's a common tactic in the US, and it worries me to see it here.

Would you please exercise the same oversight on ad content that you do on all the women who provide content here?

StealthPolarBear · 07/09/2018 21:30

I found leaflets from a pro life org in a university and quite a lot of people said they shouldn't be removed, it was free speech and young pregnant women should use thgeir critical thinking skills

StealthPolarBear · 07/09/2018 21:31

And that leaflet was similar iirc. Talked abouyt support but was only obviously pro life when you looked at the detail

LouMumsnet · 07/09/2018 21:37

Evening everyone.

Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention - we're really not sure how it slipped through the net.

Rest assured we're onto it now and have let the ad team know.

Thanks again.

margaurette · 07/09/2018 22:01

Thank you Lou!
